Oh, for Pete's Sake: They're actually filming the Potter 7 epilogue

Will YOU make a break for the exit once the epilogue comes on?

  • No, the epilogue rocks! Only a cameo by Jar-Jar could possibly improve upon it.

Everett: Pete, it's a fool that looks for logic in the chambers of the human heart.

Re: Oh, for Pete's Sake: They're actually filming the Potter 7 epilogu

Explain to me how a man would name his children after men who had abused and exploited him for years.
.

How about growing up and realizing the world isn't painted in childlike black/white but in shades of grey?

Snape was an asshole extraordinaire sometimes, favoring Slytherin as much as he could and making Harrys life a living hell.

However once Voldemort returned he became also one of the most brave men in the series living directly under Voldemorts scrutiny and relaying back crucial information all under the peril of his own life.
When it came down to it he saved Harrys life by giving up his own out of his free will.. heroes aren't always clear cut, squeaky clean types. Personally it would be an honor for me to name my own child after such a person and when the time comes tell him about the origin of its name (and i wouldn't sugarcoat his bad sides too).

Just go through history and find me a single, beloved historical person and i'll find you a black spot in their personal history.

The same applies to Dumbledore.. at the forefront he may seem a bit callous by using children as agents in his fight against Voldemort but those instances were almost always last ditch situations. All the heavy fighting was done by adults (many of them experienced Aurors) and they were the ones dying (apart from the last battle that is).
I honestly can't find fault in Dumbledore's approach.. up until the discovery of the Horcruxes Harry was the only person who stood a chance in direct confrontation against Voldemort (apart from himself maybe as he was one of the most, if not the most powerful wizard around) and actually succeed in destroying him.

Had he not been poisoned and wounded so grievously in the Horcrux search and had he had a bit more time he could well have taken out Voldemort himself without endangering any person.

Re: Oh, for Pete's Sake: They're actually filming the Potter 7 epilogu

God forbid that facing life-and-death situations every single year of your young life would also lead you to bond closely with others who shared those situations... simply because they're the only people in the world who could possibly understand what you went through.

Nevermind, also, that Harry's own parents wound up together the same way, hinting that it may also simply be the way of things in the world of wizardry. With a social taboo about associating with muggles, it's pretty easy to see them hooking up courtesy of such a limited pool of potential partners on top of the horrifying experiences they lived through.

Re: Oh, for Pete's Sake: They're actually filming the Potter 7 epilogu

Pullman's His Dark Materials series (The Golden Compass/Northern Lights, etc)...neither the first book, nor the series itself had exactly what you would call "Happily Ever After" endings (Hollywood *really* dropped the ball in the movie - by cutting the actual ending...)

And they were *powerful* endings...but, the ending of the series...it really ripped me up inside.

I haven't read the last 2 of the Harry Potter series...I stopped 1/2-way through Order of the Phoenix because I was a bit exausted/burnt out on the series and needed a rest - and have yet to get back to them...so I haven't read the epilogue (but my oldest daughter has told me some spoilers)...and....

...well...look, these characters are (still) like personal friends for me...I've grown attached...I kinda would like to see a "Happily Ever After" for them...they deserve it.

I don't wanna be depressed and crying my eyes out in grief at the end....

Re: Oh, for Pete's Sake: They're actually filming the Potter 7 epilogu

Lots of smart and/or hot chicks fall for stupid, butt-faced guys who treat them like crap...happens all the time.

Doesn't make sense...but it does.

(I fell for a smart, beautiful girl in college who was engaged to a dumb, fat, jealous whiny ass...what she saw in him, I dunno...but she never noticed me - or thought me as a viable alternative - no matter how hard I tried...)

And Ginny...I dunno...seeing the fight in the fired literally back-to-back in the last movie....if I met a girl would would literally run through fire to help me...then literally have my back in a fight...rest assured, I would never give her up.

In my marriage...it was all one-sided...I can see what Harry saw in Ginny....easily...plus she's pretty, smart...what's not to like?

Re: Oh, for Pete's Sake: They're actually filming the Potter 7 epilogu

Two pics here.

Do the filmmakers not understand that this was clearly a practical joke on Rowling's part?

I have no idea where you're getting this information from.

I thought it was touching in the whole "life goes on..." thing.

Re: Oh, for Pete's Sake: They're actually filming the Potter 7 epilogu

I'm a little confused. Is there some sort of massive fan consensus that the epilogue was some horrible piece of work? Other than being a tad corny I really didn't see a problem with it.

Why wouldn't they film it???

Yeah - I am confused too. First I have ever heard of this.

Re: Oh, for Pete's Sake: They're actually filming the Potter 7 epilogu

Not all fairy tales end Happily Ever After.

But that doesn't mean a fairy tale can't end Happily Ever After, either.

Why shouldn't Harry Potter get his Happily Ever After?

Why shouldn't Harry Potter get his Happily Ever After?
Already asked and answered, my good sir: ;)
It's not as though, if Rowling had ended the series in the "present" after the good guys win, the public would clamor, "But will they all be ok? Will they survive the inevitable PTSD that no character has actually yet exhibited? Will Harry be killed in a tragic broomstick accident before unlocking Ginny's Chamber of Secrets?" :p

That doesn't really answer the question. Sure, the epilogue wasn't to your taste, but that's not the same thing as there being a real reason not to give Harry a Happily Ever After.

Re: Oh, for Pete's Sake: They're actually filming the Potter 7 epilogu

That Harry would fall for/be interested in Ginny because she's available and part of his circle is totally credible; that he would actually marry her is far, far less so.
Maybe she lets him take her up the shit box.

Also, I don't think it's beyond the realms of possibility that Harry would hang on to those close to him. He basically had no friends at all when he was a kid, so when someone comes along who wants more than friendship I can imagine him clinging on to that.

Ron and Hermione is just one of those opposites attract things that doesn't really make much sense but is kinda sweet.

Actually, Snape saved Harry directly or indirectly at least four other times that I can think of.
1) In Book 1, counterspelling Quirrell, probably the best-known example,
2) In Book 3, defending the whole group against Werewolf Lupin (after they'd knocked him out, too!)
3) In Book 5, lying or at least contriving an excuse to not use veritaserum on Harry when ordered,
4) Also in Book 5, summoning the Order to the climactic battle. This was the scene that pretty much confirmed to me that Snape was on the side of the angels.

Harry doesn't acknowledge any of these things. Throughout the series, it becomes more and more obvious that Harry is just prejudiced against Snape and refuses to see anything other than his bad qualities. It must have been something of a shock when those visions showed him the truth. No, it's not a surprise that he'd name his child after Snape.

I was really wanting to see the two of them sit down together and make peace. Ditto with Draco, although at least we get some acknowledgement of it in the end.

Re: Oh, for Pete's Sake: They're actually filming the Potter 7 epilogu

They should do what ABC just did to Lost: post an "epilogue" that gives everyone the wrong impression about how the show "actually" ended and causes widespread panic and hysteria. :p

:guffaw:

I can't believe how seriously people took LOST. Thank god it's over....

...for now.

Yeah they look stupid. They actually made them look good old, but they look too old. Harry would be 40ish? He looks like he is 60-65.

Re: Oh, for Pete's Sake: They're actually filming the Potter 7 epilogu

Seriously? That's pretty damn good-looking 65. I have more gray than that, and I'm in my thirties.

LMFAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:guffaw: :guffaw: :guffaw: :guffaw: :guffaw: :guffaw: :guffaw:

Gee thanks!!!

Now I have to spend twenty minutes cleaning coffee out of my keyboard.

Oh and yeah.......most of us always knew Harry liked it that way!

;)

Re: Oh, for Pete's Sake: They're actually filming the Potter 7 epilogu

that kind of talk is NOT funny where there are children reading these posts.....
grow up.....

Re: Oh, for Pete's Sake: They're actually filming the Potter 7 epilogu

Sorry, but just because it's about Harry Potter, it doesn't make it a thread for children. Children aren't allowed to post here.

Re: Oh, for Pete's Sake: They're actually filming the Potter 7 epilogu

and that means it's ok to talk about that subject.... still...
grow up....

Re: Oh, for Pete's Sake: They're actually filming the Potter 7 epilogu

Sorry, but it's not against the rules.

Re: Oh, for Pete's Sake: They're actually filming the Potter 7 epilogu

we'll see... I reported it....
