OGAM DVD

AviTrek

I just got the OGAM newsletter and they mentioned a DVD release. How have they worked out the copyright/licensing issue somehow to allow this? I can't imagine CBS letting such a high profile project get away with charging anything unless they have an agreement in place.

They must have some sort of special licensing deal. Paramount would be fools not to take advantage of the huge demand for a ST:OGAM DVD. It's win-win, really.

Even if they don't, can't the DVD be released with a credit that says "With special permission of Paramount Pictures", or something like that?

Hmm. I would hope they've got the backing of Paramount/CBS, otherwise this would be a big no-no, and put other fan films in jeopardy.

No it can't be released like that. There are some legal issues still being worked out now, that is why there was no date given.

Would it make any difference if they were to offer viewers a deal: you send them a DVD-R (and possibly a case for it), they then burn OGAM to that disc and send it back to you with an insert?

Or, conversely, offer a free download - of the movie and the DVD art - from their website?

Yeah, the ISO image approach has come up alot but at this time the producers are holding off on that.

I imagine this will just be an ISO that you have to burn yourself. Otherwise Of Gods and Men will definitely run into some legal troubles.

There is NO legitimate release of New Voyages on the net or anywhere!
Anyone selling this dvd is not authorized to do so. That's why we stopped offering dvd/iso files. Because some refuse to play by the rules!

Exactly and that is why we are not doing that with STOGAM either. All I can say in regards to STOGAM is that this is a physical DVD (as pictured in the newsletter I created). The system to make it 'available' to fans is still being worked out legaly and logisticaly by the producers of the film.

Looks like TrekMovie is reporting that the procedure will involve a donation to a charity and receiving the dvd as a gift. I guess that gets around the money issue somewhat, although I don't see what OGAM gets out of it besides the tax deduction on the discs.

Are you concerned that somebody might download the ISO file, burn it to disc, and then sell it?

How would any other method be different? They can still sell it no matter how they got it.

So that one we were talking about on this very forum a couple of months ago was NOT legit afterall?

I'd say it's pretty clear from the info in the very threads you just linked that said DVD could not possibly have been legit, if any kind of a fee was charged, even if said fee merely covered the cost of the blank DVD that was used to make the copy.

I still don't see how offering an ISO (plus the DVD cover art) for download, could possibly be a problem. It's free, so where's the legal issues?

Although it's almost impossible to prevent someone from creating and selling a DVD, providing the ISO and Cover Art makes it a 1000 times easier. With a high profile production like NV or OGAM it's almost guaranteed.
