Official Smallville Season Eight Spoiler Thread

That's interesting, as Maxima was the only one who was able to put up a fight against Doomsday before Superman took him on.

I had no idea that Maxima would be appearing this season in any form...I'd like first dibs on calling that shot though since I predicted (after my countess suggestion was shot down) that Tess could be Maxmia. When I first heard of this new character before I thought of the Countess I thought of Mercy...but I think it would be cooler (ala my long abandoned Smallville continuation project) that Lex should return with both Mercy and Hope!!!

Of course, she and Clark will get in to a punch up and she'll win because of GIRL POWER! Then Clark will find out she's a good guy and won't get a chance for payback.

^ That's what happens in the comics...in the comics Maxima is the last of her race who has come to Earth seeking a consort and finds Superman worthy of her choice. I think later on she becomes a little evil, I remember her being part of the Superman Revenge Squad.

^I'm aware of that, but it kind of fits in with what we've been saying. The guy's a Eunuch to begin with, and to make it worse he has a horrible habit of losing fights with superpowered women.

If you think of it in continuity of the show it makes perfect sense...some of the women he's encountered have had more experience than Clark with their powers and are aggressive during the fight. Clark not so much and he probably has been raised with the mentality of not hitting a women...so most likely Clark is defensive during those fights and looks for a way to end it without harming his opponent. I agree though...he does get beat up a lot by women and the same will probably happen when he encounters Maxima.

You know, I wasn't too fond of the 6th season the first time around.

Are you saying that it grew on you after a second time around?
God no! I'm saying that season 8 is starting to sound too much like season 6, with Jimmy/Chloe/Doomsday becoming another Clexana wedding storyline. The majority of season 6 was awful as far as I was concerned, with only a few good episodes in the bunch, Labyrinth being the highlight.

I will agree with you about liking seaon 5 though, that was the last good season of Smallville for me.

I hadn't heard anything about Maxima, where'd you hear that?

Kryptonsite had reported it a few weeks back I think about Maxima...I think I remember reading it but had forgotten. Yes CW does seem to be pushing the strong girl power thing in all of its shows which of course is okay...really though I think it goes to the writers. They've made Clark such a wuss with his powers...

There's a not so fine line between well rounded, strong female characters and grrrrrrrrrrrrrl power!! One of them makes you vomit. The other doesn't. How often does Clark get beat up by women? Most female fans don't need to see likable male characters get their butts kicked simply because they're men. Granted, with a female character whose has "super powers" it's not so ridiculous, but Clark is (in theory) the main character who's supposedly a good guy. The same argument has been levied back and forth in the nuBSG forums about itty bitty Starbuck being shown beating up on Apollo while they were boxing (no, I'm not kidding). The actor who plays Apollo has huge meat hooks for arms and shoulders; it was beyond ludicrous that he didn't knock her unconscious in the first few seconds. Producers seem to think women want to see this, as if being physically as strong as men is a requirement to be a fascinating, strong female character. As a feminist, that makes me feel coddled. It's stupid after a point. It's not a crime to depict a strong male character. There's a difference between sensitive men and wussies. It's the 21st century. Can't we get a balance? Superman shouldn't be a wussy.

^Thank you!

My view is somewhat more simplistic. He's SUPERMAN. He's supposed to be the absolute top of the tree. I'm sick of seeing him getting his butt kicked all the time.

Oddly (I'm a geek and watch the BTAS reruns on weekday mornings) an episode of STAS with Maxima just played.
