O'Brien out, Leno back in?

I think on the first night Leno has The Tonight Show back, Conan should be the first guest on Letterman.

There are rumours that he is already planning a Letterman visit.

I recall the occasional Letterman/O'Brien cameo crossovers of the mid-90s. They were possible because their shows were on two different times but a couple blocks apart, and each crossover was always a surprise.

They were always a fun and enjoyable hoot.

Leno really isn't the main villain in all of this. Zucker and his cronies are the morons at play here. That being said, Leno isn't doing anything to help the problem and is coming off looking bad.

I still like my "2Nite Show" name best. :)

How about 2Nite 2Show?

They only way Jay could redeem himself - and what I would love to see - is that the minute Conan's departure is final he announces that he is actually going to retire. NBC would be left with nothing.

Are you kidding me? That would be the worst thing he could do. Wait until after Conan leaves before saying "Oh, I don't want the Tonight Show," suggesting that the last two weeks could have been completely avoided and Conan could still have his job.

The Tonight Show with CARSON DALY!...

You know...I actually had a dream about that the other night? I was reading about the Leno/Conan stuff here on the BBS before bed. I went to bed and dreamed that it was announced that Carson Daly took over the show. I then tried to come to log on to the TBBS to see the utter shitstorm that would be bound to happen, but kept being prevented to log on. Needless to say, it was strange.

you know, he could surprise us all, and be JAYS first guest too...:guffaw:

Well, Conan was Jay's last guest...

Now if you will excuse me, I taped last night's new Friends and want to watch it so I can reuse the tape to record the Olympics. I think Nagano is really going to pull off a great show.

I'm really excited about "The Phantom Menace" In a recent Cinescape article Lucas says that he's going to have a fully CGI character that will part of the "Star Wars" mythos!

Insurrection also looks pretty awesome. The Enterprise with a joystick? Oooooh buddy!

I'm riding the dotcom wave. Gonna be rich! Nothing can stop this economic boom!

My new hard drive is one gigabyte!! I'm never going to be able to fill all that up!

Well, Jay pleaded his case (I'm watching all late night talk shows until Conan goes off the air). You could hear how Jay rationalized it and rounded it in his favor, enough where that video of him passing on the show to Conan back in 2004 would be enough to bite him in the butt. The way Jay was playing it, it all fell on the network and that Jay was just the hapless guy caught in the middle. While I'm sure that happened to some extent, Jay can't fool me and I don't think he can fool everyone else. He definitely had a voice in all of this.

Jay could have said "It wasn't far to try and bump me and it's not fair to bump Conan", he didn't, he's an ass.

Exactly. It was his choice to make. Jay's not ignorant, and he's not a fresh face to the whole show business game. He made it seem like a wide eyed, innocent "Oh, okay, if Conan leaves sure!". Jay's smarter than that. I think he saw the perfect opportunity to return, even at the expense of Conan, and took it. Come on, he made excuses for NBC about Conan's ratings, knowing FULL WELL that his own ratings in 1993 were terrible, when he was first starting. He knows this. He knows better, and that's what makes him an ass in this situation.

Watch how the audience starts laughing when Leno, in his story, after Conan doesn't want to go to 12:05, he gets to the "*sigh* ...yeah I'll take the show back" bit, like it was some tough decision. There's no joke there, no reason for the audience to laugh - they clearly aren't buying it either.

Look, Jay, we get it. You're not the first person to have coveted a good job, and you're not the first one to try and get it while getting someone else knocked out of it. Don't pretend like you didn't want it. whatever.

go read the story of Leno and Helen Mushnik's behind the scenes machinations to push Carson towards retirement (contrary to popular belief Carson wasn't ready to go). he's such a nice guy.

if there's any justice to it all, once he's back on in his old slot his ratings will continue to go south of his primetime numbers...

but then again, life's not about fair

I love it.
I'm DVRing every episode this week. It's going to be great!

I didn't think it was possible for Leno to come off as a bigger asshole, but that's a terible statement he made on his show.

Last night, they reran the Jimmy Kimmel where he does Leno the whole show. His Leno is funnier than the real one, and actually funnier than Jimmy Kimmel himself.

Letterman mocking Dick Ebersol was amusing. "We knew him in the 70's working at NBC, he was a guy then, he's been a guy and he's still a guy now." (Or something)
