After being named host, he [Ricky Gervais] told Reuters: "Everyone is sitting around drinking. I'm going to be drunk, and I'm not going to rehearse. So, it's the perfect gig for me."
Barry Manilow has long been scheduled to appear next week (on Thursday's episode), before LateNightCrisis2010 broke out. Some websites have reported that Manilow will do a sort of Bette Midler-like farewell tribute on Friday's episode...

So does anyone know if it's true that NBC is putting a clause in his exit contract that Conan cannot go to another network for a set number of years?

there is always a clause of this sort in broadcasting contracts. its meant to pre-empt them from jumping ship to another network simply because of a better offer.
however i doubt it works both ways, as in this case with NBC ending the contract themselves its probably a dead issue, just something their lawyers balked on to use as a scare tactic against Conans people.

NBC isn't ending the contract, Conan in a way quitting. There is nothing in his contract that says his show has to start at 11:35pm, and Conan refuses to move so Conan is the one leaving.
The Wrap is also reporting that Conan's camp is furious over reports he stiffed his staff in his exit deal: http://www.thewrap.com/ind-column/conan-obrien-report-he-stiffed-staff-‘outrageous-lie’-13080

Wow, I had no idea there are 200 (!) people working for such a show, that's incredible.

Except that the tonight show has started at 1130 it's entire existence... I think that 56 years is a heck of a precedent.
SNL rubs it in real good...
