O'Brien out, Leno back in?

It'd be great if Dave were to formally announce the retirement he's been hinting at, then asked Conan to host The Late Show.

That is, if Craig's meant it when he's said he's not interested in the job.

It would kinda screw fox, and I think Conan would be a better fit on that network, but that would be a class move from Letterman if he did do that. It would also mean that I would get to watch my two fav late night shows on the same network.

Maybe if I repeat "Conan go to Fox" a thousand times a day until this is done, it will really happen. :D

You think Letterman cares about Fox?

Maybeb Letterman will give Conan the spot, if Craig doesn't want to move, when he retires. There is a chance that whatever Conan does now will also fail. So in a couple years maybe Conan comes back and takes over Letterman then.

You know, I never watch the late night shows unless I REALLY like a guest that will be on. But even I've been motivated to watch Conan because of this. The controversy has made it funny and fascinating.

I watched the Jimmy Kimmel where he was Leno for the whole hour, and wow, I can see why I usually don't watch these. The format and humor doesn't really work for me. The conversations with the celebrities were awkward and painful.

The Conan shows were good. I'm just wondering how much of the goodness was fueled by the controversy. And I have to admit, the thought crossed my mind that the whole thing is intended to boost ratings. But if so, it has SO backfired on NBC.

With Conan, what you see is what you get. Now, he has to dampen his show just a bit for the suits, who play a big part of the backstage scene. When I used to watch Late Night With Conan O'Brien, you never knew what Conan was going to do next, he was so much fun. I hope he talks to Fox, I hope they come to an agreement, and I hope he dominates late night television on Fox. He's earned it.

The way this fiasco is going down we all know what NBC stands for
Nothing
But
Crap

Johnny Carson is spinning in his grave over this...

Especially if Fox really gives him full creative control and a Seth MacFarlane level of independence.

I can't see this going an entire week of shows with Conan knowing that Leno is coming in to retake the Tonight Show. I think NBC may be telling Conan next week will be the last week and then after Friday's show inform the rest of them that it is done.

I turned it to NBC just as Jay said something about Conan but I didn't catch it, although it was followed by boos. Although I did catch the remark a minute later, "You know, it seems now, that Conan's ratings have gone up, they've gone up from all of this, so You're Welcome." He got mixed boos and applause.

Oddly enough Letterman was the same way when he had Late Night, and he got damped down when he moved to 11:30.

I think moving Conan to Fox would free him up to be the best Conan he can be, and that would be a win for the audience.

I'm wondering if Jeff Gaspin is letting Conan run because he's pissed about how Zucker and the other brass dumped this problem on him this year.

"In other TV news, Sarah Palin has signed with Fox News to be a correspondent. Fox says, if she does a good job, they'll sign her to a long-term contract. And if it doesn't work out, they'll just blame Leno."

I caught that, but I had just heard the word "Conan" as I was turning up the TV and he finished the joke and then lots of boos.
