A poll last year (I'll have to see if I can track it down) surveyed a group of people who would describe themselves as conservative if they believed that Obama was not born in the U.S. I think the response was around 40%. This seems consistent with other surveys.

An important and very interesting followup question asked those
participants that had rejected Obama's citizenship if Hawaii was a state in the Union. Something like 15% of those participants said "no" and another 20% responded "unsure".

This disappointing finding would help us understand the reasoning behind some people's believe about Obama's citizenship.

Obama, however, spent millions of taxpayer dollars to keep the birth certificate sealed, ignored FOIA requests, and even ignored court orders. Most people you're citing as 'evil racists' were really just people trying to figure out just what the hell was going on. (Remember, even the short form required massive litigation to get released). If he had done what McCain had done when Hillary Clinton rose the issue during the campaign, this would have been over years ago.

Joe Biden would become President with Boehner becoming Vice President. There would then be a special election for Boehner's seat.

We already went over this. Both McCain and Obama presented the legal birth certificates of their respective birthplaces as part of the vetting process for the presidency. No one has a problem with this.

No he didn't. He released the public short form and then only after a court order required it. Now, this should have ended the issue, yes, but some DailyKos types decided to put out a blatantly fraudulent long form document out and claimed it as the real thing at the time, muddling the issue.

As for the vetting process, you're demanding that people trust Pelosi and Reid (the vetting signatories) after their own malfesence with Bush's records only a year prior. Like I said, the controversy was borne not out of Obama's skin color, but out of the behaviour and patterns of certain members of the DNC community through the last four years (Obama included).

FOIA can be applied to any level of government, from municipal to federal. And it may apply to a personnel document if there's compelling cause, such as proof of office eligibility. In this case as with McCain, the FOIA wolud indeed apply.

It doesn't mean that if the President's office is vacant that EVERYONE get's "promoted". When Kennedy was assassinated Johnson did get elevated but Speaker John W. McCormack did NOT become Vice President.

Also, when Nixon left office Ford as Vice President was elevated but Speaker Carl Albert was NOT Vice President.

I'm an American and I love my country, but I think the law should be rewritten to allow any US citizen - and not just those who are born here - to serve as President. It's contrary to the very principles of the Constitution to deny the chance of reaching the highest office in the land to someone just because they weren't born here.
