Well, there probably won't be another series for awhile. Eventually they'll do a reboot. Every show will get a reboot eventually.
Stargate has been going downhill ever since RDA/Greenburg (Gekko) left the franchise. Why not "retire" the current writers and producers and give SGU another shot under new management? Despite the shitty ratings, the show could always be renewed for a 10-episode third season with the possibility to add ten more in case things pick up.
I still think the franchise is very much alive, but not with the current group of people at the helm. I mean, they even managed to create a big divide in the Stargate fandom by directly insulting fans and corrupting GateWorld Forums. I don't go to GW in ages due to the blatant censorship and pro-TPTB stance. If they think this sort of thing helps SGU, think again.
Not based on what this guy (who actually works at SyFy) is saying:Stargate has been going downhill ever since RDA/Greenburg (Gekko) left the franchise. I think thats what could possibly happen.
TV by the Numbers said:
- C+3 day commercial ratings: They determine how much the networks get paid for their advertising. They measure Live and DVR viewing of the average commercial minute during a show within 3 days of airdate. They are rarely available in public.
Since Pathogen got .974 million Live+ Same Day, it got way lower than that for C+3 and that means SyFy's losing money on the show. If it keeps up over a few more episodes (which looks likely considering that the next one is a Scott based episode), then SyFy will drop the axe and air the rest of the season since they already paid for it.
- Live+Same Day program ratings are very close to the C+3 commercial ratings for almost every show. In the majority of cases, Live+ Same Day ratings are above C+3 ratings.
- Since Live+Same Day program ratings already exceed C+3 ratings in most cases, the additional ratings/viewing added between Live+Same Day and Live+7 Day measurements adds no incremental advertising revenue.
I suppose this is also the end of this forum.![]()
Stargate needs its own identity. Even if it were turned over to RDM, I would not want to see Stargate turned into BSG. Right now the identity is "substandard knock-off of Star Trek" which has lately morphed into "substandard knock-off of BSG." I think the show can do better than that.BSG was a great show, but it was its own show. It was not tryiny to be anything other than its own show. SGU's problem is that it's trying to be BSG.
I cared. But they've floundered around badly with the story instead of focusing relentlessly on it like they should have. You don't need a war to have a gripping, exciting story, but I guess it does take extra talent and work to do a story with the excitement of war without all the battles and spacecraft zooming around. A war story is easier to pull off.Caprica was never what anyone wanted in terms of a prequel for BSG because no one really cared how the Cylons were created.
While I understand the desire to take StarGate in a new direction after Atlantis, I don't understand the desire to follow BSG, which had less than fantastic ratings.
How are any of them series finales ?
Full Circle - Leave Anubis, Daniel and the rest of the snake head plots all OPEN.
Lost City - Leaves O Neill on the verge of death and the snake heads still run the galaxy.
Moebius - Comes the nearest but still the characters need a bit more closure. Jack/Sam relationship and what does Teal'c do now his people are free. Baal the last system lord left still out there.
Unending - Deals with nothing apart from giving Teal'c some grey hairs.
That's a big part of why I can't understand what Mr Awe is saying. He seems to think SyFy cares enough about reaching golden syndication numbers to get Caprica, a heavily-serialized series, as many seasons as necessary to that end. Yet at the same time, he claims Battlestar Galactica didn't do much of anything for the network, plus openly admits its syndication value is limited.
Blood and Chrome is, indeed, exactly what many of us wanted. When Caprica was announced, the first thing that ran through my head was, 'the only way this is going to be appealing to a large canvas of fans is if they time-jump forward several years ASAP.'
No. MGM won't let it go either. It is basically their only source of revenue anymore.

Really? Because they only get money if Stargate stuff gets made, which it won't once Universe is rightfully canceled.
You have to be unique and make your own, you won't win by emulating.
