Maroto are an interesting band, and Affects Us So Powerfully (1999) catches them during their intense transition from hippie/folk to ploitical electronica.
The influence of new keyboard player Neil Leppard is seen in the political approach in songs like Desalinize and Tank, while lead singer Andy Moot relected where the band has come from in the songs Lift and Review. Their single from this album, Lady, is a love ballad that doesn't quite mesh with their old or new styles, and failed to chart, but has since been covered successfully by Exercise.
Their follow-up album, Risks On Its Behalf, was a more cohesive effort, and rewarded them with three gold albums. But fracture were appearing in the band, as mentioned in the last track of ROIB.
