Not trek, but sorta sci-fi

So I've been thinking lately about what my own scifi universe would look like, and at first it was pretty much just star trek based. But thinking about it more, I thought it would be cool if there were some things star trek, some battlestar galactica. There are probably other influences that I don't know of, but eh, what can you do but mention them as you realize them?

The world is based upon what I think would happen if the Philosopher Stefan Molyneux's theories were put into practice in the distant future.

The "Hero ship" is based on some of the older designs for the Starship Polaris

Another ship is sort of a cleaner looking version of the Battlestar galactica, but shaped very differently, because of the gates.

Gates are based off of Cowboy bebop, only much faster

I have a fighter, but I can't think of what it looks like to be honest.

The pistol would be electrically based, and I'm making a real prop of it now. Here's a paint mockup of what it looks like at the moment:

When it's done it's going to be black with silver highlights. I'm not sure yet if I'm going to make any more mods to the Berreta base design yet.

I've made what will either be a comm or tricorder type device out of a sonic tape measure, I'm not sure which yet.

More as it comes :) Any ideas welcome. Maybe after the props are done there will be a low budget movie (Like $10 budget lol!)

The "tricorder" is interesting. What is it?

There are so many off-the-shelf electronic devices now that with a little modification can serve as props - at least if you're not intending to do close-ups on them. On Polaris we used a compact baby monitor for a transmitter/receiver type thing in one scene - in a later shoot we'll probably need to get a good look at it, at which time we'll have build something custom.

It was one of those "Sonic tape measures" I bought it for a quarter in a yard sale. I never trusted the damned thing, but the buttons say "READ" (the big one), "+" "-" "=" (three below the screen) "SET/UNIT" "ON/MODE" (the two above the screen)

There's actually no markings on the device to identify what it is. And the name reminds me of a less cool VERSION OF A Dr Who device actually :)

Ah, too true.

I particularly liked the version Tennant used.

Anyway, what kind of gun are you modifying, there?

This particular one is a beretta airsoft pistol I found in a shelf in my basement, but the final verson will probably be a 1911. I like the lines of the 1911 much better.

I think I have one of those. I've picked up a bunch of airsoft stuff cheap on eBay over the last year, looking for prop parts.

The "Polaris variant" ship is cool-looking too. What do you use for CG?

I use Wings3D for models, Kerkythea for rendering :) I have a friend that does 3D work, I might ask if she could whip up an animation for me :) But any movie would likely happen down here on earth, more of a mystery than a scifi thing. For the simple fact that building sets:
1. Can be expensive, and I don't have much money
2. Takes up alot of room, that I dont have

Yeah. We're in the middle of tearing down and disposing of the sets right now - that has to be completed by the 31st of the month. After that, sometime in early January the other producers and I will sit down to map out exactly what the schedule for our chroma key shoot is going to be and what we're going to need. Thanks for the offer of help.

Ok, just pm me if you need any help :)
