Noah's ark found

"Evangelical explorers"

That is what scares the crap out of me. If it had been a group of impartial scientist or archeologists I might have said, "Holy shit, dude!" Now I am just skipping past without so much as a backwards glance. My father is a Baptist preacher and this kind of thing doesn't even register on my "bull shit" meter anymore. At this point I have seen and heard it all.

And speaking of bull shit, there was a claim by another group back in the 1980's about the ark. They said they had satellite images of a supposed man-made structure in a glacier. They also claimed that the Turkish government wouldn't allow them into the country because of the religious implications. First off, I highly doubt that an intact wooden boat would survive a glacial freeze. I also highly doubt that the Turkish government would close there borders to a scientific expedition, especially one that would bring tourist and their money. And since they are letting people in now to look for it, why hasn't someone gone to check out this previous claim. Edit to add: I looked it up and the group was using the Soviet/Turkish dispute over the Ararat area as the reason they couldn't prove their claim.

If memory serves there was another group from the 1970's that claimed they had a piece of the boat that someone had removed from the edge of a glacier. (What's with the all the frozen ark stories?) This farmer or shepherd (I can't remember which) said that it was part of a larger structure that was inside the glacier. Nothing every came of that either.

But don't get me wrong, I am not saying it did or didn't happen. What I am saying is that Noah and his ark have become an overly exaggerated legend like Atlantis or The City of Gold. With that in mind, finding the ark would probably be a HUGE disappointment for most. Maybe that should be Indiana Jones' next adventure. Hmmm... I have to go call George now!

How long is it in cubits?

Bill Cosby as God: 'Get some wood and build it 300 cubits, by 80 cubits, by 40 cubits.'

Noah (Cosby): 'Riiiiiiiiiiiiight. What's a cubit?'

God: 'A cubit, yeah, uhhh, well I used to know what a cubit was, uhhh... Well, don't worry about that Noah, because when you get that done, go out in the world and collect all of the animals in the world by two, and put them... INTO THE ARK.'

Noah: 'Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.' *Pause*
'Who is this, really????'

:p :guffaw:

Classic!

Cheers,

One question. Now that apparently evangelicals think radiometric dating is a good and reliable tool when it tells them that some wood is 4800 years old will they believe it when radiometric dating tells them that objects are older then 6000 years old?
Or that the Shroud of Turin is a forgery created in the 13th or 14th century.

The Roman Catholic church accept that the shroud of Turin is a medieval artifact.

^ Yes and no. They never claimed its authenticity in any official capacity, but they never refuted it either. At the same time, they made it an object of devotion, and they are very keen in refuting every single paper that tries to settle the question about it being a medieval artifact. So it's more a case of covering all your bases while at the same time exploiting it to get the devotion of the faithful.

I think their argument goes along the lines of sainthood - if it caused miracles then it's a religious artifact no matter what its provenance. The RC are quite canny about scientific progress.

I thought Spam wasn`t allowed, If god flooded the world with water, firstly where did God get all the water and where did all the water drain away? The Whole world was underwater?! It just does not make sense!? The water would have no where to drain! Ugh my mind hurts.......!

Pretty much a given that Noah built an ark? Is there any extra-biblical evidence for Noah? And any for the ark?

Oh, don't worry so much about the details. What's worse is that all the animals in the Western Hemisphere and Australia had to swim the oceans to get on a boat so they wouldn't drown, then swim back! :)

The Chinese have a myth about Nüwa who repaired heaven to save the Earth from a flood. However, Nüwa was a female deity, not a male shipwright.

Stop picking apart when religious people conveniently argue a subject their way.
