No Wolf 359, No Voyager?

Your forgetting (and I had to look this up) but the Enterprise-A was retired in 2293, while the Enterprise-B was launched later in 2293. Plus we know that the B was incomplete when launched and was missing a number of crew and parts. So the B was being constructed and was in testing flights (sure it wasn’t the prototype—-unless it was its subclass prototype) while it’s predecessor was out battling General Chang. Unless you are suggesting that the B was constructed in, what? 6 months from when it’s keel was laid to what we saw in Generations?

I wasn't suggesting it, because I didn't bring it up, you did ;)

Here's what I think happened with the Enterprise-B: In STIII, when Admiral Morrow told Kirk that the Enterprise was going to be decommissioned, there were already plans to replace her with a new Excelsior class starship, which would have been the Enterprise-A. This was 2285, so there would have been eight years between the original Enterprise's decommission and the new Enterprise's commissioning in 2293. However, after the whale probe incident, Starfleet gave the Ent-A name to another Constitution class ship in the meantime, while construction started on the Excelsior class ship, which would now be called the Enterprise-B. Once the B was complete, Starfleet decommissioned the A.

Really??? In 2285 Starfleet was still working out the kinks in the original Excelsior design! Would they really start working on a sub-Class Of a prototype when they were still ironing out the details of the Excelsior design (at the end of IV the Excelsior still had the NX registry), and it was apparently still in dry dock as a prototype until at least 2387. So if the Excelsior was in prototype phase for more than 2 years, and most of that time was in drydock, then it is possible that the Intrepid class prototype was also in drydock for multiple years decades later, with only short excursions to test the engines. And with the Enterprise-B sub-Class, then the sub-Class wouldn’t be built until the original was finished and was working.

Really???

Yes, really. In 2285, the Excelsior prototype was completed and ready for trial runs. The only 'kink' it had was that Scotty sabotaged it. There were presumably plans to mass produce them after that, so I do not see any problem whatsoever with the next new Excelsior class ship being the new Enterprise.

And I'm not understanding your dates. The first time we see the Excelsior is in STIII in 2285. The next time we see it is three months later in 2286. Yes it's in Spacedock, but it is fully operational (as a deleted scene mentions that both the Excelsior and the Intrepid NCC-1707 were about to evacuate Spacedock before the Whale Probe made them lose power).

It could be that the Intrepid mentioned was the first Intrepid-Class ship, and that after the subspace damage was discovered, as the newest class to be developed she was taken back into dry-dock and overhauled to address the issue. The variable geometry warp field and swirly warp core could've been proposed by a Hekaran engineer previously, due to the research of Serova and Rabal, but dismissed only to be picked out the bin and adapted for the Intrepid-Class. A few months of R&D and the new design was ready to launch.

The Excelsior also appears in Star Trek V which takes place in 2287, giving the Enterprise-A sometime for testing, and we get a nice big close-up of her hull which reads “USS EXCELSIOR NX-2000” (it’s during Mr Scott’s monkey comment).

But also the Excelsior would’ve been in drydock during the events of “Star Trek II” which starts on March 22, 2285, Kirk’s Birthday.

Yes, that was stock footage from STIV.

I'm not sure what that has to do with anything.

Even though it was reused, the Excelsior apparently didn’t move, so it was apparently in dock since it was towed back to dock in 3. So there were obviously other issues that they discovered that were not related to Scotty’s sabotage.

But with the Intrepid, if The prototype was sitting in drydock for over 2 years, with only a few engine test runs, why would LaForge be in competition with a ship that is parked for the majority of the time, or even s ship where the would be testing the ship to make sure the engines were just working to spec. That would be like a car manufacturer comparing a modified car with its stock engine replaced with a different engine or certain parts replaced, to a prototype that they are testing.

Well, at this point it doesn’t seem like we’re going to convince each other of the other’s beliefs, so without any hard evidence, I’ll concede that it could go either way. But I’m still not convinced that the ship Geordi was talking about was anything other than the Intrepid prototype.

Shelby diverted "resources" from everything that Starfleet thought was necessary or essential Before Picard found the Borg and lead them to Earth, and towards anything "new" that could stand up to the Borg.

Every prototype that did spend two to 5 years in a shipyard holding, would have met with an overhaul and refit half way though it's construction, once the engineers circled back to that whatever, since what was thought as reliable tech during design, oh so long ago, would now be out or date or half assed.

I got an email last week where Windows is threatening to stop support for Windows 7, which is the platform that I am still using on 2 of my computers.

I doubt that because of this benediction that I will immediately upgrade to windows 8, and bath in it's superior modernness.
