Thats too bad. Maybe we(trekkie universe) should ask Spike TV to put them back on, or atleast share them or give them to Syfy.

Yeah The movies are liked by others, but I hear more that they are bad, but people watch it for the possible tit and ass scene, I just want to see some more effort put into it. Especially if they are going to put out the same movie that hollywood are. I know they can't compete but they can atleast reach the knees if they safed up and did half the movies, but at greater quality, they might get even more viewers.
The movies are made to capitalize on big budget Hollywood blockbusters not compete with them.

I said that I am not asking them to compete with hollywood.
It's about capitalizing though. A quick cheap knockoff. ( no different than with clothes or watches)They are more than comfortable with the budgets and profits they have. Upping the "quality" isn't very important to them.

Movies like these follow basic rules. Short principal photography shoots, low SPFX budgets, B-grade or past their prime actors, etc, etc.

The more the marry I guess. But once I would just like to see slightly more quality. I am not gunning for stargate universe, just better graphics than the 80's had.

You mean, "The more, the merrier," I believe, unless you're presiding over a mass wedding. But what I think you meant to say is, "To each his own," or words to that effect, as "The more, the merrier" literally means that it's more fun with more people, which wouldn't make a lot of sense in this discussion. Maybe in TNZ, though. ;)

It all boils down to this: television is a business. They are in it solely for the money (shocker!). If people didn't watch this crap, they wouldn't air it in the first place. But people do, and SyFy buys it from Asylum (or wherever) at a very, very cheap price. So, if they can charge advertisers the same price for a slot on a show that was uber-cheap but gets the same ratings as the show that costs them an arm and a leg, guess which show gets canned? It's business, pure and simple.

Eh...If they can profit off what others would flush, you can't really fault the Network for it.

And reality TV is the cheapest of all to produce, so that's why SyFy is generating more and more reality based programming.

it does not make sense for them to up the special effects, as it would cost more and get no additional viewers or DVD sales.

Yeah I noticed, not all of it even dealing with science fiction. That cooking show for example.

How. The graphics are horrible, the actors would get an F report card.
Thats how its profitable, no effort is put into it.
Why not show Voyager or Ds9 instead, that would most likely get better ratings.
Sometimes they have genre stalwarts like Adam Baldwin or Jewel Staite. People will watch just to see familiar faces.

There is always Sanctuary, a graphics intensive show. After a while you just don't notice that it is there though.

But I was right when I said that Siffy changed its name just so they could put non science fiction crap on their station: food, ghosts, wrestling. Eventually someone has to come up with a real science fiction channel.

The Asylum films aren't that bad. Yeah, they're cheesy, they're usually poorly written, poorly acted, poorly... where was I going with this? Oh yeah, even with all of that, they're a lot of fun. What I do like is the ethic of the people behind the company. Yes, they make mockbusters, but they make their own original work as well, and when they really concentrate on it, they do good work. I also like the idea of a training ground of sorts for actors, writers, directors and so on, because Asylum seems to be open to more new faces in those areas, and we all have to start somewhere.

QFT. Very much in the vein of Roger Corman films in eras past. You need low budget schlock for the James Camerons of tomorrow to have somewhere to hone their craft.

The reality is that Syfy makes more money from low-budget Asylum garbage than expensive serialized dramas like Stargate Universe.

Yeah, that doesn't surprise me. The movie with Joe Flanigan was fairly watchable. They should do more like that.

I'd also like to see them to more insane, over-the-top stuff. Even if they can't be good, at least they can be funny. (I know they're already funny but not funny enough.)

I know I will. They should get Ben Browder back in something.

how can you not like Sharktopus?

Sharktopus was great. To be honest, some of those syfy monster movies are more fun in theory than in execution. (Sharks in Venice, anyone?) But Sharktopus delivered: I swear there was a ridiculously over-the-top sharktopus attack every five minutes--and a theme song and a Roger Corman cameo to boot!

Come on, who doesn't want to see Debbie Gibson and Tiffany facing off over some giant alligators and pythons?

Don't ever change, Asylum.

Some interesting stuff on Asylum from Wikipedia -

"The Asylum work schedule is typically four months from decision to create a title to finished product. The script will take from an hour to a few weeks to write. Pre-production is afforded only a few weeks, production is a couple of weeks..."

"The Asylum's usual budget for a production is reportedly well under a million dollars, and it typically breaks even after about three months. The Asylum have never lost money on a film."

Sorry, Sci Fi changed its name to SyFy because Sci Fi wasn't a trademarkable term. If it wanted to change the name to justify moving away from sci fi then why pick a name that sounds the same? They could have changed the name to Imagine, but they didn't they chose SyFy. As much as I dislike the reality shows on SyFy they are still more science fictiony/technology focused than reality tv on other channels. I don't blame SyFy for creating them, just for not knowing how to schedule shows.
