Milk is about a famous gay icon. Therefore, Hollywood loves the film unconditionally. There would have been a huge groundswell of support for the film if Prop 8 won, or if Prop 8 lost, or if there was no Prop 8 on the ballot at all.

So you agree with me that Milk will likely be a leading candidate for Best Picture. Cool.

Of course it will. But not just on the merits of the film. An Oscar nomination will also be seen as Hollywood's way of showing solidarity with the losing side in the Prop 8 battle.

As for The Dark Knight, an Oscar nomination for Best Picture would be well-deserved. But has any summer film since Raiders of the Lost Ark received such an honor?

Braveheart in 1995, it even won if I remember correctly.

I'll be catching it in IMAX for the third time (which will make the fifth time I've seen the film in a theater) with a friend who really wanted to see the film in IMAX yet didn't have a chance to.
