No Man's Sky

It seems my prediction of this being No Man's Spore becomes truer by the day.

Not certain how it is like Spore.
the most direct parallel would be overpromising and underdelivering on features*

the main difference being for me personally that I actually got enjoyment out of what NMS ended up being - managing expectations always helps

*known in some circles of the industry as "doing a Molyneux"

Did they ever release the update that was suppose to add more things to do?

I'm pretty sure Hello Games has cut and ran at this point, I wouldn't be expecting any more patches. I think we basically bought the 2016 version of Atari's "E.T."

And what's Sony's role in all this? Weren't they also involved? I think they were the ones that told Sean Murray to shut up.

Oh I'm sure they were involved, and probably pushing for a faster release (This game was originally slated for the PS3!) However, I think that Sony didn't realize the extent that the developers got in over their heads. Who know's though? untill there's some wikileaak of the internal memo's or another hello games employee comes out of hiding and writes a book about the ordeal, we won't ever know.

What shame about this game. it was fun at first, until you realized there was nothing to do. It's a really good base for a game, but it isn't even that yet except for doing a lot of mucking about for resources.

If so, that's pretty shitty of them. It was one of the best-selling Steam games of all time. Despite the game's reputation, the studio should at least be rolling in money by this point.

I hadn't looked lately, but I remember the Steam reviews were in Mixed or Mostly Positive territory a while back. Now the average is Mostly Negative and the recent average is Overwhelmingly Negative. That can't be good for sales.

Has it dropped in price yet?

No.

I think it is fair to say I got my money's worth out of No Man's Sky. But, I will be disappointed if they add nothing else to the game. 18 quintillion planets is great, but most looked exactly like each other.

"18 quintillion bowls of oatmeal," as one reviewer put it. A bowl of oatmeal is nice. Two might be nicer. After a while, you're just sick of oatmeal.

Well given the price hasn't dropped I'm not that keen.

If this were now around 20 or 30 US dollars I'd probably get it.

Given its flaws and its apparent abandonment by the developers, I'm not picking this up for more than $10. Whenever that happens.

There was a small update I noticed today,
Not certain it is worth the current price , half that would be a good deal.
