No longer deep space, renaming DS9

Honestly, I see no reason to rename the station. I mean, it's a well-known name among everyone who has anything to do with Starfleet, Bajor and space stations in common. It would only be confusing to give it another name.
More than that:

The writers say in the documentary that the issue of Bajor's admittance to the Federation has not yet been resolved.

All of that was true when it was called Terok Nor, too, but people made the adjustment. In terms of "confusing," the name Deep Space 9 is about as specific of a name as "Really Far Away 12." If they renamed it something like Starbase Gamma Gate, nobody would be scratching their heads about what station was being referred to.

I have to disagree.

As I wrote before, Deep Space 9 is an established and well-known name after all the years it was in the center of the attention from many plantes and races. To rename it would only cause confusion.

They made the adjustment because the name 'Terok Nor' would've been fundamentally unacceptable to the Bajorans. There's no reason for anyone to object to the name 'Deep Space 9'.

Right, they made a change based on geo-political shifts. Calling it the equivalent of "Really Far Away 9" was a compromise the Bajorans made for Starfleet, but as the gateway to their celestial temple, they would be well within their rights to change it to something they felt was more appropriate. With all of the quadrant's major powers hanging out there, there was nothing "deep space" about it anymore.

It wasn't really a compromise, though. It had to be changed to something so it was changed to DS9. There's never been the slightest indication that the Bajorans had any objection to the name whatsoever, and there's no particularly good reason to think they should object to it (other than the specific Bajorans who objected to the Federation presence in general, who don't matter since Bajor ultimately chose as a society to join the Federation fully).

And since they did join the Federation, they kind of would not be within their rights to rename the station anymore. At most they could request a different name, but the point remains there's no particular reason for them to do so.

If the Federation feels a need for any 'deep space' station to fit a specific profile that DS9 no longer fits, then that could be a reason for a change (most likely an entirely generic change to something just like 'Starbase xx' or 'Bajor Station'), but we also have no particular reason to believe that Starfleet values the descriptive content of the phrase 'deep space' more than they value the administrative continuity of keeping the name 'Deep Space Nine'.

It depends if whether the Bajoran Militia was folded into Starfleet and if the station moved from Bajoran ownership to Starfleet ownership.

I imagine the station remained belonging to the Bajorans and the Militia probably existed still in some form. Much as there was still a Vulcan Expeditionary Group ninety-five years after joining the Federation.

I imagine the Bajoran Militia would definitely still exist in some form, but I don't see any reason why DS9 would be a purely local station when the Wormhole is such a major deal.

Per the novels, when Bajor joins the Federation the station militia is assimiilated into Starfleet security but Bajor retains its own planetary security forces.

I think the Federation and the Bajorans would be well within their rights to change the name if they feel like it. The name Deep Space Nine doesn't have a long history; it just got the name right before Sisko moved there. If they do change the name, I hope they go with a Bajoran one, selected by Bajorans, and ideally chosen to honor their ancient culture. Or they can call it Wormhole Station. That has a nice ring to it, and considering that this is the only known stable wormhole in the universe, it's a very unique name.

Given that the Bajorans themselves seemed to prefer not referring to it as a wormhole, I doubt they'd call it something like Wormhole Station.

They used Prophets' Landing before, and I liked that title. Perhaps Prophets' Gateway, since the wormhole has been called the gateway to the celestial temple?
