No "Computer...." anymore...

DIS to TOS fits with a growing technophobia or retro grouch stance we see starting with Captain Pike.

I thought TOS Starfleet purposefully struck a balance between computer control vs. man-in-the-loop control of ship functions. We see many times where technology fails or aliens hack the ship's computer, and in other situations, we see humans fail or aliens take control of humans, so, a balance is needed to protect the ship. M5 showed us the error of removing a man-in-the-loop. This balance is based on the rarity that both fail or aliens take control of both.

TNG and later series started to re-introduce more computer control I assume due to better anti-hacking protections in their computers and automated systems.

Discovery and Picard show the computers as constantly monitoring the crew. The EMH turning itself on during times of stress, or the Discovery computer getting help when Tilly hurt herself. It's a logical extrapolation from today, but as usual with Discovery it doesn't fit with TOS and causes problems if you give it any real thought.

Discovery featured a massive battle against a Starfleet AI gone rogue in its final episode. It's logical to assume that the Computer's AI will be sidetracked for awhile while Starfleet tries to prevent it from following in its fellow comrade's footsteps. The Enterprise in particular might get its library banks wiped and Pike has already showed a willingness to overhaul it with the holographic stuff he ordered ripped out.

The above theorizing will likely be moot once Pike's adventures are further chronicled.

Which is weird as such. If a foe can hack one, why not the other? "Clues" and "Conundrum" showed likely takeover scenarios, one involving a trap laid by a veteran of laying such traps to random alien visitors, the other apparently describing a more impromptu reaction yet still from a culture with a long history of fighting with takeover tactics, even if against just a single historically known opponent.

...Or out of a desire for greater comfort, and security be damned. Or at least it works that way today, with our everyday IT more vulnerable by the day yet our dependence on it increasing all the time.
