This is definitely one on which you should read the Lurker's Guide. jms comes right out and says they screwed it up and badly

Yeah, I've actually been reading The Lurker's Guide after I watch every episode. Starting with the very first episode. It's got a whole lot of information there.

Not sure if I mentioned this earlier or not. If you should come across some quote or sound bite that you particularly enjoyed, a great place to check is The Down Below Sound Archive.

Thanks :)

And The Rock Cried Out, No Hiding Place
This is an episode about setups. Londo sets up Vir and G'Kar to help his standing in the Centauri Royal Court. Also, as a whole, this episode felt like it was setting up the next two episodes down the line. I really liked Refa's death with the Gospel song intercut with it. It made it amusing and poignant at the same time. Regarding the B plot, the fleet of White Stars was a surprise and were obviously introduced for use in the coming episodes. Overall, a good episode.

This episode shows Londo at his most Machiavellian best! One of the things I like best about this episode is that "fool the audience" technique, with Londo and his scheme to outwit Lord Refa. It's similar to what they pull on us with "Point of No Return" and the Nightwatch.

Only one episode left to season finale Tom ? Glad you are enjoying show so much..

Shadow Dancing
So in that vision Delenn saw in War Without End II. It's a vision of the end of this episode. And the woman in the doorway is... Anna Sheridan. I was so shocked by that revelation that I almost fell out of my chair. What a time for her to show up! When Delenn is watching Sheridan sleeping! Of all the times to show up ;). This was another excellent episode. I loved the Shadow battle in this one. I thought it was edited together nice and quickly, keeping the tension up the whole time. It's also nice to see Franklin back in Medlab at the end of this episode. I felt his plot in this episode was a lot better than the one in Walkabout. Z minus 2 days...

What was your opinion of Franklin's interaction when he "met himself"? Interesting to note that portion of the episode was edited for British broadcasts due to its graphic nature. At least such is what I heard.

As for Anna...... just wait until after you see the next episode.....

Note also that Anna was played by a different actress back in early S2, "Revelations".

I really enjoyed Franklin's discussion with himself. I love how it was directed and acted. The level of blood was fine, blood doesn't faze me.

Z'ha'dum
Wow. I can't wait for season 4 now. Let's see here...
Sheridan is dead. Or is he? Kosh's warning to Sheridan to "jump now" had shades of Star Wars to it. I have no idea what's up with Kosh's connection with Sheridan, but I think that will come into play when and if Sheridan is "resurrected". Anna Sheridan had the good amount of creepiness in her. I knew there was something not quite right with her. The revelation that they were "melded" with the Shadow ships and are forever changed, makes a lot of sense. Especially after Ship Of Tears with Bester's lover. I have no idea where the storyline is going from here, but I'm anxious to find out! :)

"It was the end of the Earth year, 2260, and the war had paused, suddenly and unexpectedly. All around us, it was as if the universe were holding it's breath ... Waiting. All of life can be broken down into moments of transition or moments of revelation. This had the feeling of both."

"G'Quon wrote, there is a greater darkness then the one we fight. It is the darkness of the soul that has lost its way. The war we fight is not against powers and principalities. It is against chaos and despair! Greater than the death of flesh is the death of hope. The death of dreams. Against this peril we can never surrender. The future is all around us, waiting in moments of transition to born in moments of revelation. No one knows the shape of that future or where it will take us. We know only that it is always born ... in pain."

And the way Katsulas adds the vague little bit of a tremor to his voice as he speaks that last phrase "... in pain." punches it ever so subtly.

yeas , Katsulas read that entire script like reading a poem , so subtle with his voice tone.

We are waiting your Season 4 reviews , Tom ! :) By the way what do you think about story of Shadows , their version , philosophy , way of thinking and basics of conflict ?

And Tom Riker, when you get done with the entire series, there's a filk artist by the name of Tom Smith I want to introduce you to. He has a parody of Barenaked Ladies' "One Week" called "Five Years"... and I would guess you can tell what his song is about. ;)

I agree 100%. Katsulas is an awesome performer. Related to this, I know Ivanova did the voiceover at the end of season 2 and then did it for the theme song for season 3. Does this mean it's going to be G'Kar doing the intro monologue during the theme song for season 4?

For Can, about the Shadows philosophy, I like it a lot when the shades of grey come in. For every villain there's another person who sees that villain as a hero. There's two sides to every coin. The Shadows are obviously still evil, but what they're doing is perfectly normal and rational to them.

He's involved, but the season 4 opener is...a little different.

Yes it is different. I like it a lot actually.

The Hour Of The Wolf
Sheridan's missing. Garibaldi's missing. This was another great episode. After the ending, we know that Sheridan's alive, I just don't know why. Kosh 2 is a little weird :vulcan:. Is he evil? I guess I'll be finding out soon. Cartagia is insane and he actually talks to the diesmbodied heads he keeps on a desk. I had a nice laugh when I saw that. Some of the Shadows are now hiding out on Centauri Prime, eerily similar to what happened on Narn a thousand years ago. I wonder if the Centauri telepaths will be killed off as a result? Not a whole lot really happened in this episode, but it was still an excellent episode.

well , intro credits and music of this season is greatest in all B5 series I think. G'kar trying Garibaldi's hat was very funny. By the way after "Atonement" episode I suggest you watch TV Movie "Babylon 5 : Thirdspace" It just fits in B5 timeline.

^^
Sorry if I beg to differ, Can. It recently rewatched all of B5 and have started watching the movies afterwards. As for Thirdspace, I'm really glad I didn't watch it inbetween episodes.
For one, I found it hard to believe that with everything going on on B5 that we got to see during the series there would be any room at all for the events in Thirdspace. Secondly, personally I'd have to say it's just not on par with B5 episodes at that point. And finally, to me, it was a strange viewing experience since Thirdspace felt like a mix of all sort of SciFi movies and shows with B5 as the backdrop. I feel it would actually take you out of the B5 atmosphere at that point.

So, Tom, I'd recommend you watch Thirdspace AFTER you've watched the series even though it fits in terms of the timeline. I don't know how other people see this but this is certainly the way I see it.

Again, this is just my point of view.

Given this is Tom's first time watching B5 (and have I mentioned how much I envy him for that?), I'd have to agree with you, Just. It's best to just experience the whole thing uninterrupted and leave the extras for afterward.

If Tom elects to watch B5 again, that could be the time to watch the movies in the "right" place. Until then, I'd leave 'em alone and just keep enjoying the series.

Tom I was just going to ask if you knew which character said which line during the S4 opening. But I'm feeling compassionate tonight. :D

The opening theme for Babylon 5, season 4.
  • Lennier, "It was the year of fire..."

    Zack, "the year of destruction..."

G'kar, "the year we took back what was ours."

Lyta, "It was the year of rebirth..."

Vir, "the year of great sadness..."

    Marcus, "the year of pain..."

Delenn, "and the year of joy."

Londo, "It was a new age."

Franklin, "It was the end of history."

Ivanova, "It was the year everything changed."

Garibaldi, "The year is 2261. The place:"

    Sheridan, "Babylon 5."
