Niners Unite...around Babylon 5!

^ Look, if you can't watch all the episodes each week, watch the ones you can and add to the discussion of those.

It's certainly better than dropping out of the group altogether.

By Any Means Necessary - Again, a very nice episode, showcasing the "lower decks" of Babylon 5.

In this case, those lower decks are those of the dockworkers, who transport and unload cargo from ships visiting Babylon 5...

In this episode, by the wife of series creator jms, we also discover just how far Londo will go to annoy G'Kar. The two are like fighting children, and it's hilarious to watch. "Your door was unlocked" and such. :P

4/5 for this episode.

John Snyder returns to the Babylon 5 set. In this episode, he played negotiator Orin Zento. Previously, he played the "sane" Soul Hunter in the episode of the same name.

And this is not the last we'll see of a certain dockworker. :D

Overall, I quite enjoyed it.

"By Any Means Necessary" is a great episode for Sinclair. I'm really warming up to his character this time around, I don't remember liking him or O'Hare's portrayal of him very much during my first run-through. The way he just nonchalantly turns everything around and forces the situation to a conclusion is terrific, and sets up his not-so-good relations with certain people back home.

I haven't done "Survivors" yet, I'm doing them a little bit out of order. I know "Sings and Portents" is going to be terrific, and I know I'll still love the Spoiler:
prophecy. The station blows up, and the last shuttle leaves...just like in the series finale. We know who's on that shuttle. I think that's wonderful. Even though in the finale, the station blows up a short bit after the shuttle leaves, instead of during. That's probably a good thing, though! ;) <---That should be the little yellow dude, but it won't let me put smileys inside the Black Boxes of Doom.

I also watched "TKO," just because I didn't remember it very well. That's for next week, right? I'll hold off on commenting about it til then if that's the case. This is fun!

I watched Signs and Portents and I loved it (again). :D Now that I've seen the whole show a few times already it's actually better then before. There's just so many little things that the characters say that make sense after you've seen the whole show. It really is amazing. :)

Too bad the next ep is a stinker.

Definitely!!! I'm sooooo terribly behind, I have to confess that I cheated on B5 with nBSG this week (I just couldn't resist because I've never seen nBSG before :o)... but I promise I catch up with you all in the next 2 days :D

Something I meant to add before, regaring By Any Means Necessary ... A funny bit that I think wasn't intended to be in there ...

Towads the end, there are several shots of a very sleepy Sinclair, down with the dockers guild. (the night before the Rush Act)

Every shot changes his "five o'clock shadow" .... In one close-up, it's a full shadow. In another, he's clean shaven, then a two-frame with him and Neoma, and there's just a hint of whiskers, then he's back to full shadow, and on and on. It's hilarious to watch!

I watched these three last week and failed to take the copious notes necessary to add to what's been posted already, so I'll be brief.

"Survivors" --I've always liked Garibaldi and this ep. added a lot of depth to his character. I thought his "niece" was a bit too gung-ho about wanting to nail him, but a nice episode overall.

"By Any Means . . ." --a great Sinclair episode. I love the Londo/G'Kar moments as well. Very enjoyable.

"Signs & Portents" --Here they come. I completely forgot that Mr. Morden pops up so early. I love when Kosh says something like "They aren't for you" to Morden at the end. Great foreshadowing. Great episode--much better having seen the rest of the show.

Three excellent episodes. Too bad the next three dip a bit.

One pretty decent episode, one really lousy episode, and one that's half and half. In reverse order, of course.

Grail as I recall stinks the only saving grace is David Warner.

TKO Nice story about Ivanova finally greiving for her father and showing the jewish faith .

Eyes I love Jeffrey Combs as Harriman Grey Nuff said until later when I actually watch them.

FORMERALLY KNOWN AS THE TREKBBS USER RANGER FIRELL

Finally caught up with this weeks episodes. I've just finished watching Signs and Portents.

What a great episode this is. It's one which actually becomes better when you come back to it after having seen the whole five seasons. So many things are set up for later and there are lots of hints of things to come.

One of the most memorable quotes for me:

"Then you don't believe her vision?"
"She's been wrong before. On my first birthday she said that someday I would be killed by .. the shadows."
"Shadows?"
"Doesn't exactly make sense, does it?"

-- Londo and Lord Kiro

As well as Delenn's "They are here." and of course, G'Kar' and Morden's discussion:

"What do I want? The Centauri stripped my world. I want justice."
"But what do you want?"
"To suck the marrow off their bones, and grind their skulls to powder."
"What do you want?"
"To tear down their cities, blacken their sky, sow their ground with salt. To completely, utterly erase them."
"And then what?"
".. I don't know. As long as my home world's safety is guaranteed, I don't know that it matters."
"I see. Well, thank you very much for your time, Ambassador. Good day."
"Nonsense." [to himself]

Brilliant episode.

:)

"Grail" has its moments. Unfortunately, moments are all it has.

I pretty much agree with this.

As for the other two, "Eyes" is fine, and "TKO" is saved by the Ivanova storyline, IMO.

Signs and Portents

Oh, so much going on here, where do I begin?

We get our first glimpse of the Shadows ... We get our first introduction of Mr. Morden, a character who will continue to be seen through every season (incidently, and not a spoiler here, this was not Mr. Morden's first appearance on the set. Because of the amount of FX work and post production involved, the season finale, Chrysalis, which also features Mr. Morden, was filmed before this episode. So the actor, Ed Wasser, had already filmed one episode, then came back for his "first appearance" ... He said it was a very weird feeling. Incidently, Ed also appeared as one of the techs in CNC in the pilot. But not the same character.) ...

Through the seer, we discover that, according to her, Babylon 5 will be destroyed, with one shuttle leaving as it's going boom. I wonder how that will impact the rest of the series? After all, we know for a fact that at least 3 stations have already gone "boom" and one's gone missing. This can't be a good thing. Can it?

Gerrit Graham, who played the other Centauri, co-wrote The Little Mermaid, though uncredited, and also appeared in the Voyager series, playing the Q who wants to commit suicide. How many times can this man die? lol

And finally, this was Joshua Cox's first episode. Here, he was supposed to be a simple one-time no-name-or-background tech, the same as any on CNC, the background characters ... Who could have imagined the role he would eventually play in the series' future?

4/5 stars.

Funny how that works. I can think of at least two other major characters who started out as one-offs also. Three, if you count.....well, that would be getting ahead of things.
