Signs and Portents
Oh, so much going on here, where do I begin?
We get our first glimpse of the Shadows ... We get our first introduction of Mr. Morden, a character who will continue to be seen through every season (incidently, and not a spoiler here, this was not Mr. Morden's first appearance on the set. Because of the amount of FX work and post production involved, the season finale, Chrysalis, which also features Mr. Morden, was filmed before this episode. So the actor, Ed Wasser, had already filmed one episode, then came back for his "first appearance" ... He said it was a very weird feeling. Incidently, Ed also appeared as one of the techs in CNC in the pilot. But not the same character.) ...
Through the seer, we discover that, according to her, Babylon 5 will be destroyed, with one shuttle leaving as it's going boom. I wonder how that will impact the rest of the series? After all, we know for a fact that at least 3 stations have already gone "boom" and one's gone missing. This can't be a good thing. Can it?
Gerrit Graham, who played the other Centauri, co-wrote The Little Mermaid, though uncredited, and also appeared in the Voyager series, playing the Q who wants to commit suicide. How many times can this man die? lol
And finally, this was Joshua Cox's first episode. Here, he was supposed to be a simple one-time no-name-or-background tech, the same as any on CNC, the background characters ... Who could have imagined the role he would eventually play in the series' future?
4/5 stars.
