Spoiler:
I know this isn't a commonly held opinion, but Ladira's vision about the station does indeed come true...just not quite in the way anyone had anticipated. Took me a few viewings to make the connection. One of the biggest puzzle pieces sitting in plain sight for almost the entire series. Remarkable.

Yeah, that was amazing to me. To think that Spoiler:
the actual fate of the station was seen so early in the series was one of my biggest surprises.
That's one reason why I think that watching the show for the second time is almost as cool as the first time. In some ways, even more fun.

^ Now I know where you've been ALL weekend. :p

Yeah...that and ICQ isn't working from here now either. :(

I *really* need someone with some techie genes to help me with these instant messengers. They work at the office, but not at home anymore. :(

As superlative as Katsulas and Jurasik are, put them together and something extraordinary happens. Even with the generally excellent material in most G'Kar/Mollari scenes these actors managed to raise that material to remarkable heights. They're two of the best actors I've seen, and together they are even better than they are individually.

I agree 100%. Londo is my favorite character in all of scifi, and Peter Jurasik is just brilliant (you should have seen me gush over him when I met him last year - I think he was ready to take me home, I gave him such an ego boost! ). But he's still BETTER when G'Kar/Katsulas are in the scene.

These two are one of the chief reasons I fell in love with this show. Well, that and the fact that I'm kinda a major Spoiler:
Sheridan/Delenn
'shipper. :p

Mya i jion in hte fun"?

Sure can. :)

Please read my first post in this thread (there are also some clarifications a couple of pages back from here), and if it is agreeable to you, you are welcome to join us. This has been in progress for a few weeks, but we are still in the middle of season 1, so you are not too far behind. :)

I would probably be able to help you if I could take a look, but unfortunately that isn't possible.

What exactly isn't working? Can you just not log into msn/ICQ? Are you getting any error messages?

Each time I've rewatched the series I've managed to pick up something new. Sometimes trivial, sometimes not. It's a measure of the show's excellence, IMHO, that it seems to get better with repeated viewings and that "new" details just seem to appear.

Gotta say that didn't damage my enjoyment of the series one little bit. Quite the reverse, in fact. One of the very few shows I can say that about. :D

As for IMs...when in doubt, uninstall and reinstall. Can't hurt. ;)

That is, in fact, one of the things I look for in a show; if I can get more out of it the second time, it's definitely good.

Aside from Babylon 5, this particular phenomenon is particularly notable in the BTTF trilogy and Firefly, among others.

Well, I guess with this one, I'll be done for the week. And it's only Sunday. :( I'm gonna be jonesin' now.

One weekend. Seven episodes of Babylon 5. Excellent!

Of course, I didn't get hardly anything *else* accomplished...but what the heck. :p

Anyway....

Signs and Portents:

Well, this episode is important for about a million reasons. Not all of them (in fact, very few of them) are immediately obvious to B5 newbies. But to you newbies out there, this is one of those key episodes that you will LOVE watching later, after you see the rest of the show.

Anyway, the two most important things, obviously are:

1. The entrance of Spoiler:
Morden

and...

2. Spoiler:
The Shadows
make their first appearance.

These two events definitely serve to ramp things up a notch, even though it's not completely apparent yet. Of course, it is interesting how Ladira's prophecies about Lord Kiro came true. But at this point, the part of her vision about the station blowing up is, fortunately, not something that came true in this episode.

Also of interest was Delenn's reaction to the mysterious stranger. Terror...and the utterance "They're here!"

But who is here? At this point, we don't know.

In this episode, we have all kinds of double-crosses. Kiro double-crosses Londo, the raiders double-cross Kiro, and of course the raiders get destroyed by some wicked lookin' new ships. :p And things come full circle when the mysterious stranger brings the Eye back to Londo after the destruction of the Raider ship. And issues the promise that "We will find YOU, Ambassador. We will find YOU!"

But almost as important as items 1 and 2 above is the revelation that Garibaldi's investigation turned up: That for whatever reason, the Minbari wanted Sinclair to run Babylon 5.

Most interesting.

Most interesting.

Probably the most entertaining Londo-related incident in this episode is the bit outside the elevator with G'Kar. "Now look what you made me do!"

All in all, a great episode. Newbies, file this one away. :D

I've always loved the way the B5 theme plays in a minor key at the end of "Signs and Portents".

I also love the way B5 rewards you for watching it a again. It's my second time and I've picked up loads of little bits and pieces.

Such a wonderful show. ;)

Oh and Vash, I'm really enjoying your little summaries. :)

^ Thanks! I'm actually having fun, keeping track of all the great Londo-related lines and such.

I've watched the show a few times now. But it's really interesting looking at it from Londo's perspective in particular.

Of course, that ought to be a REALLY interesting perspective when we get further into the show. ;)

I watched Survivors and By Any Means Necessary this afternoon and enjoyed both very much. Not much to add that hasn't already been said.

As usual some of the best scenes were the ones containing Londo and G'Kar, but I particularly liked this little bit of interplay between Ivanova and Lianna:

"I demand you open a channel to Earth at once."
"I'm a Lieutenant Commander on Earth Force, Major. I don't take demands. If you will request, I will consider it."
"Very well, then. I request that you open a channel to Earthdome."
"Request denied. Have a nice day."

And this line from G'Kar:

"Oh, why does the universe hate me."

:D

Survivors

Survivor's Guilt would have been another appropriate title for this episode.

What at first glance appears to be a straight-forward "who done it" mystery story, ends up being about 12 different stories, all tied together in bits and pieces.

Over a decade before this story, Garibaldi was having a rough period (but then, when wasn't he?). He was taken in by Frank Kemmer. A group wanted Garibaldi dead, and targeted him, but killed Frank by mistake. Frank's daughter, Lianna, blamed "Uncle Michael" for her father's death.

Flash forward to now, Lianna is head of Presidential Security. It is her job to travel ahead of the President and ensure his safety, by any means necessary.

Michael is implicated in a bombing on the station, and Lianna does everything in her power to make him pay. After all, she's out for blood.

On the run, Michael finds out he has more friends than he ever thought. Both Londo and G'Kar are among them.

What might have been just an ordinary mystery was elevated and enjoyable. I give it 4 out of 5 stars.

I wasn't very impressed with Elaine Thomas' acting as Lianna, but in looking at her credits, she's only done two roles onscreen, including this, so maybe she realized she's not very good and retired early.

Trivia ... Doug Netter is one of the executive producers of the series, and owner of Netter Digital, which did the CGI for a few seasons on the show. His picture was used in the first episode, "Midnight on the Firing Line", as President Santiago.

Here, he reprises that role, in a voice over, as the President. In addition, the General is named Netter, in tribute to him. Cool tie-it. :)

Also, Jane is given two outfits to wear ... Her closet is expanding!

"President Santiago concluded his tour of the outer colonies with a stop at Babylon 5, presenting them with a new Zeta Wing of starfuries. He is scheduled to make a statement at 8 Earth Standard time tomorrow night, where the President plans to reveal his plan for expanding trading with the major alien races during the coming year.

"Vice President Clarke toured the Yakov Smirnov Memorial Hospital in the Russian Consordium earlier today. Ivan Habart, an eight-year old boy suffering from Bermaga Stupiditis, asked to meet with the Vice President, through the Make A Wish foundation. Bermaga is a rare disease which causes the brain to decay, leaving its victims in a vegitative state. There is no known cure. Ivan was reportedly overjoyed at the Vice President's arrival, but was even more delighted at the box of Godiva Chocolates he received, courtesy of Earth Central.

"Don't miss our interview with Orin Zento, tonight at 11. And now for a word from our sponsors."

By Any Means Neccessary

Is an episode I enjoy showing us the nuts and bolts of B5 can be crippled at any time by the working man.Great episode by JMS's wife.
