there was a hilarious fan made tng /b5 cross over on midwinter way back
it affectionately made fun the short comings of both shows and the ensuing culture clash of having these people meet

I've never watched B5, but I'm definitely interested.
I'm on season 1 of DS9 now in my first Star Trek watchthrough, intermixing it with season 6 of TNG, and now I'm wondering if I should throw B5 in there too. Funnily enough, the episode I just watched, Birthright, Part I, aired the same day as the first pilot film, The Gathering. Just lucky timing, I guess, what do you think?
Also, I've heard the DVDs are poor stretched 16:9 transfers. Anywhere you can watch the standard 4:3 episodes in decent quality?

I have that on DVD. "Star Wreck in the Pirkinning" It used to be free online, not sure if it still is. Had pretty awesome sfx for the time, and yeah, the jokes were fairly funny, especially if you researched some of the reasoning behind them. I actually watched B5 so I could understand the jokes from the "B5" side, and wound up loving the show.
I was a fan of B5 first run and now I am watching this show for the first time and I love both
I'm still sad Jerry Doyle recently passed away. Garibaldi really was a memorable character.

Been reading this thread has been quite entertaining, especially the first 30 pages or so. Anyways, recently I brought the first 3 seasons of the show. I'll be watching the second episode of season 3 later tonight. This is my second or third viewing of the show, as the first was in 2009. There might have been another between now and then - just can't remember.

I've seen DS9 and Babylon5. I usually say to people, that Babylon 5 is the best show I've ever seen. Not just Sci Fi, best show.. period. DS9 Is very good but not as good.

Why do its fans like B5? Please don't respond with "because it's awesome".
It was bold on many levels. It couldn't match the expensive model shots that TNG and DS9 were doing at the time, so instead they went over the top with what they could do. Coolest fighter launch since the original BSG, ignoring real world camera placement and just flew right into the screen at you, achieving Star Wars style frenetic dog fights (Trek didn't do this till The Sacrifice of Angels episode, and even then didn't match B5's intensity until the Tears of the Prophets episode in 1998?). Also to B5's credit, the overall story was mostly solid and way beyond what Trek was doing then too. Character and plot were sometimes epic, even if it often misfired at the dialogue level. Conversely, one of Trek's best qualities was the well written characters brought to life by talented actors. But when DS9 was still dealing with Bajoran politics and TNG was still doing at most 2-parters to expand story, B5 was giving us "The Battle of the Line" The mystery of why they stopped before the Minbari wiped out humanity. They gave us new gods and had them duke it out. They told us finally what happened to Jack the Ripper. This was mind-blowing at the time. You had to read sci-fi to get this level of story at the time. I still watch it every few years.
