Another scene that is very, very riveting is his final confrontation with Stephen Baxter (I think that's the name--he's the psi corp agent turned rogues who leads the resistance, a carry over from book one). Bester won't face the truth, and it costs him the use of his hand. Filled in the blank and offered a very compelling scene at the same time.

Oh, man. Is his name seriously Stephen Baxter? I'd forgotten that.

Like Alfred Bester, Stephen Baxter is a notable science fiction author.

If Babylon 5 is Deep Space Nine, Crusade is Voyager.

your reviews (especially of the novels) have been excellent. still, let me disagree with this take on Crusade.

if B5 was DS9, then Season 5 was Voyager, while Crusade was ENT.

Crusade started off with a half-way decent, if not outright promising intro (A Call to Arms), like ENT (Broken Bow). the stuff that followed, though, was very flawed. However, the unaired scripts lend credence to the belief of the faithful that the show much actually have gone somewhere interesting (like Season 4 of ENT). alas, twas not to be, and probably it was for the best.

but i wouldn't have minded seeing Lochley in her undies one last time...before the long night

one last thought - crusade was supposed to be an even more adult scifi show than B5, kinda like torchwood. in that sense, it was a HUGE success, avoiding tons of the corny crap that has marred torchwood's first dozen eps - but still giving us the amazing character: maxamillion. and for max and dureena's tango alone, the show as worth it :)

(and dureena's flotation devices were quite hot too)

Re: First time impressions from the Babylon 5 virgin

Hirogen, I have relly enjoyed reading your reviews of the B5 media. Even if I disagree with a person's opinions on a show it helps to hear their thoughts if for no other reason than to keep my own views from getting to "rose-colored". Or in this case, maybe orange-blossoms. :D

I know that Crusade had burps along the way, but still it struck me as having excellent potential. For that reason I can't criticize it too much. It just plain didn't have a fair enough chance to be evaluated.

Wow, alot of replies over the weekend! Sorry I've not been around to close this, but I ended up having to work on an emergency project for work over the weekend, and put in over 20 hours on Saturday & Sunday. Was around alot less than I planned.

Neroon, do you want to start the new thread now? I'll leave this open until you do!
