NHL 2010/2011 season....

So... I wonder if FoxSports is going to carry the Predators in my area next year, otherwise I'm never gonna see hockey again.

It's pretty nice watching the Bruins chase Luongo out of the game in the first period after those comments he made about Thomas after Game 5. :D

Why the hell can't the Bruins do this in Vancouver? Or is it more like the Canucks only decide to show up during home games?

It's not just Luongo though. The whole team has been schizophrenic lately. The defence blew in games 3/4 and wasn't there in the first period tonight either.

If this game were against the Sharks or the Predators, I'd have hope the Canucks could still come back in the rest of the game....but against Tim Thomas, I don't think there's much hope for more than maybe -maybe- two goals. On to Game 7...at least they'll have home ice advantage then, where they've looked infinitely sharper.

EDIT: also shitty to hear that Raymond may not be back for game 7 - arguably Van's best/fastest skater. :-\

The officiating in Boston is a complete joke. Clean checks are penalized and obvious fouls are let go. Raymond was ridden into the boards and no call. That is complete bullshit. And that doesn't begin to list them all in this series.

Sure you want to complain about that? Been pretty chippy since the start of game 3, and that's been in BOTH directions. Let's not pretend it's all one sided, so wanting more calls might hurt the Canucks more than it helps. Have always thought there should be more penalties for playing like a weasel and taking a dive to try and get a call, and that one would certainly go against the Canucks this series. Then agian, you enforce that, you kick Montreal right out of the league... :)

All in all, don't think it's been THAT bad, from a ref standpoint. Haven't noticed it going too far one way or the other, and they've been standing back and letting them play for the most part, which is what you want. Just for fun, though, why is it only the officiating while in Boston you have a problem with? NHL supplies the refs, not like they're grabbing 3 guys named "Sully" from the bar and letting them do it. Not a great sign if you choose to complain about the refs only in the games you've lost...

If you want to complain about something in the finals, I'd go with the NHL itself. Not doing anything about Biter there early in the season set a tone that is tough to bounce back from. Uh, 'not enough evidence'? really? Videotape with a finger in his mouth, biting down, and then showing a bloody finger? Could have been anything, I guess. And then after that when Vancouver laughed it up and was throwing that back in Boston's face, think that woke them up more than anything. Add in the Horton hit shortly into game 3, and the Canucks have really screwed themselves over. Take those couple plays away, and momentum stays with them and they're probably already home with the Cup right now...

Either way, it's been an exciting series, and anything can happen in a game 7, so we'll see. Obviously hoping for Boston, as they've far outplayed Vancouver in the series (3 blowouts vs 3 games with a total 5-2 score). Frustrating that the away team hasn't really shown up for any game yet this series, home ice usually isn't that big a deal in hockey...

What's really interesting to me is the Canucks' goaltending situation. Luongo is the highest paid player in the league, and he's been benched in two games so far this series after leaking like a sieve. The backup is pretty good (and likely headed elsewhere next year to be the front-line guy), but you can't really quit on Luongo, because he's got something like another 10-11 years on a monster contract, so a 'no-confidence' vote in him won't work out well for the Canucks.

On the other hand, has has some pretty solid games at home, with a pair of shutouts.

They're already announced they are going with him as the starter in game 7, but seems like a pretty risky play to me. He lets go early, the cup could be out of reach by the first intermission...

^^ Yes, my wording was poor. The officiating has been largely crap overall.

I'm admittedly not the world's biggest hockey fan (keep an eye on it in the background, and been facinated by the Bruins' playoff run, so seen a lot more lately), but I haven't really seen any big problems with the refs. They've mostly stayed out of it and let the players play, except towards the end of a few chippy games where things were just getting out of hand.

They've mostly made the calls, just the Commish's office that has failed to back them up when needed. Pretty sure if there's a 1-game suspension for the bite in game 1, the series doesn't get quite as chippy as early, maybe the Horton hit doesn't happen. Because the NHL didn't deal with it, it put it back on the players, and things sorta escalated a bit more than they might have otherwise.

Actually, the ref's non-call on that bite is one of the few times I've wondered why the hell there wasn't a call. It happened right in front of him, and they showed video of the bruins player skating over after and showing tooth marks and blood on his finger, not sure exactly what the ref thought happened, but seemed pretty straight-forward here

But really, what are examples of the refs really being that bad? Not really tilting one way or the other, so been pretty even. Tending a little bit towards non-calls on plays rather than tick-tack calls constantly, which IMO is the RIGHT side of the line to come down on in the Championship series.

I honestly can't say I know enough of the specifics to say whether the Raymond hit should have been called or not, but didn't LOOK like a dirty hit or intent to injure. Result is certainly different, and that sucks, but looked more like he just caught his lower back on the boards. I mean, he DID take him to the boards, but looked pretty much like most of what's been going on, and the ref was RIGHT there on the play, so assume it would have been called right away if it was a bad play. Really not much different than the play going the other way, where the Canucks player just had to touch the puck for an icing call, and instead completely ignored it in favor of a high hit into the boards.

But like I said, generally letting them play, even if it's a bit rough, and I'm ok with that. Gotta keep it from getting out of hand, or anyone doing anything to intentionally hurt someone, but the refs have been fairly invisible in my eyes.

Honestly, the one area that I've LIKED that they are making themselves seen is on the Embellishment calls. If it's a legit hit, they're calling it, but they haven't been putting up with a lot of shit as far as flops, dives, and phantom hit with the sticks, so been happy to see that that style of play hasn't been rewarded much in the playoffs this year, and they've been actively calling out the players that play that way :techman:

From what I've seen Vancouver's wins are one goal games. I hate the Bruins and I don't want them to win the Cup, but that said if Vancouver wins by one goal again I don't really think they deserve it.
