NHL 2010/2011 season....

Well... if they lose, it wouldn't be the first time the Canucks had a great season only to blow it in the playoffs. I'm hoping they don't but wow, Chicago has just humiliated them in the last two games.

It's true. I'm trying to think back to a team that sucked so hard after a great regular season performance... I guess I don't have to look too far. Last year's Pens and Caps were awful in the playoffs. But that was the exception rather than the rule.

Good teams generally deliver in the playoffs. Sure, you get your odd Cinderella, i.e. the 2006 Oilers but usually the regular season standings reflect the playoff wins.

I am pretty sure Luongo tweaked his back in game 4 and should not be playing. I dont know how that would affect the nucks mental state however to have the number one on the bench. Course it couldnt be worse that watching him in goal the last two games.

I'm inclined to think you're right, Icemizer. I'm probably happier than anyone else on this board that the Blackhawks are making this a series, but Luongo shut them the fuck down in the first three games -- both teams were relatively evenly matched through the first three games (excepting the Blackhawks' hilarious ineptitude on the power play during Game 3), and Luongo was the tipping point ... just absolutely lights-out. I can understand one bad night, on Game 4, but last night was just silly. He's clearly hurt. A guy with his talent doesn't suddenly start shitting himself on the ice with no reason.

That said, he's what, 32? 33? Playing a strict butterfly style eventually takes its toll on the body, and he already hurt his groin earlier this season. Might be time for him to start refining his style.

I really hate Vaughn.

So, novice sometime-hockey fan checking in. The Nashville Predators are one victory away from their first-ever playoff series victory!

Does that deserve a :D or a :alienblush: though?

The only thing Luongo has to say back to Vaughn is: "Weren't you in the crappy Psycho remake, trying to be a real actor? Your next film was Dodgeball, wasn't he?"

(Although I have to admit I love Dodgeball ...)

Here's hoping for the Preds, too. Be nice to see Trotz get a series for all his hard work.

It was frustrating. I was literally on the edge of my seat and it was exciting as it really could have gone either way. As the OT progressed I don't think one team was really superior to the other. It was just bad luck because the Habs had so many golden chances and the damned puck just wouldn't go in. Sometimes it just doesn't bounce your way.

Now their back is really against the wall and it's do or die in game 6.

Y'know, I would happily sacrifice 0.1% of my salary if it meant I got to flip off Habs fans at the Bell center... :D

^^ Goody for you.

I work with folks who don't like Montreal or we simply pull for different teams. We talk hockey and we aren't the closest of friends, but we will tease each other yet we won't go out of our way to rub each others nose in it. I know long suffering Leafs fans and I might tease them a little, but I wouldn't ever give them the finger, figuratively or otherwise.

Can we get the guy with the microphone away from the coaches and players during play. These guys are trying to play and not only do they say nothing worthwhile, I can't believe it isn't distracting.

Cory Schneider is starting over Roberto Luongo in Game 6 tonight.

Luongo's got to be hurt. There's no other explanation.

Good on the Preds for finally getting out of the first round. Let's just hope it's not a repeat of the Minnesota Wild of a few years ago, who made the conference final and have been pretty much a write off since.

Buffalo vs. Philadelphia. Do I go with Buffalo (when they eliminate Philadelphia, my Leafs could get a better draft pick) or Philadelphia (to save my playoff pool)

If Luongo hadn't won the gold medal in 2010, it'd be easier to call him a choker. But he hasn't been able to go anywhere in the NHL. Maybe it's time to look at Schneider as a long term option and unload Luongo while his value is high. Just a thought...

He sucks against the Hawks?

At any rate, I'm just surprised that Schneider didn't start the previous game.

Edit... Poor Hamhuis cost his team the tying goal on a penalty shot on which his goalie was injured. I guess it's time for Lu to redeem himself.
