Kind of feel bad for the real Thrasher fans though. No one deserves to lose a team of any kind, but Hockey just didn't work in Atlanta.

Looking forward to the finals starting.

I do feel bad for them, but the market just isn't there.

Georgia is NASCAR and Braves country.

I think they could have made it work down there if they really wanted to, but the owners just weren't interested.

Vancouver wins 1-0 :techman:

If you're gonna win a one goal game then it's kinda nice to get it with only 17 seconds left in regulation.

It was a bit of a sloppy game at times, from both teams (except for Lu and Thomas - great goalie performances), but that was a great set-up and goal. And I'm happy not to have to sit through another double-overtime from the Canucks just yet.

Got tickets for Game 2 on Saturday, can't wait! Hopefully it'll be another good result.

You got tickets? I hate you. I'll be the guy on the Pat Bay flipping you off. Kidding, I think.

Bastards just had to score with hardly any time left for the Bruins to try and answer.

Oh well. Still plenty of games left.

A decent game. These two teams are an excellent match for each other. I expect the pressure to build on Boston's ice.

:scream: x 10,
Ok really, lucky you, I'll just have to watch it at the Loghouse.
enjoy the game.
A friend of mine from the track and his wife will most likely be there too.
Go Canucks!!

Burrows won't be suspended for the incident with Bergeron. :D

Btw, a few online sites are reporting that when asked about the incident, all Burrows said was "Tastes like chicken". ;)

Disagree with the decision, but expected it. I can't imagine Campbell & Murphy having the balls to suspend anyone in the SCF over a bite, short of it being a Mike Tyson-scale bite.

Shanahan can't take over fast enough.

On Sirius/XM some reporter/anchor called Burrows a 'Goon", WTF, (1st liners aren't goons.)

and if anyone stuck their finger in my mouth I'd bite it too, it would serve them right.

Canucks are back-pedaling on Malhotra being cleared to play.

"This has been a day-to-day thing all along," Gillis said. "He hasn't been cleared to play yet, he's been cleared for some contact, and he gets monitored every day."

I hope they're just being cautious.

Still its good to see and inspiring to hear. :bolian:

^Sanity? In Gary Bettman's NHL?

:guffaw: Good one

Like one announcer said they have a flair for the dramatic finish.

Now, now. Let's take off the homer glasses. First liners aren't goons usually. But it doesn't preclude you from making dirty plays. Alexander Ovechkin is Exhibit A. And Burrows is no Ovechkin when it comes to being a skilled first liner.

and if anyone stuck their finger in my mouth I'd bite it too, it would serve them right.
And yet, I can't really argue with that. I would personally not bite the motherfucker, but I can see where one would give it a pass. Apparently the NHL feels the same way.

Well IMO guys that can actually play the game aren't goons. And while not as good as Ovie, Burr can definitely play.

I agree, but labeling a guy as a "goon" isn't really fair for most players in the NHL (Carcillo aside). If you play in the NHL, you have a pretty good facility for the game whether you're Sidney Crosby or playing 3 minutes a game for the Blue Jackets.

The point is that goonism is more a type of behavior than a type of player. Good players do goony shit. Less skilled players do more of it. The key is to evaluate it on the basis of the circumstances. I dunno, Burrows biting a guy might be kind of a goon move. That's all. I don't think it's suspendable, but it's kind of some weak sauce.

EDIT: Okay, along with Carcillo, Matt Cooke is probably pure goon too. But they're the exceptions that prove the rule. In the modern game, anyway.

^ I'm not saying it's not a goon-like move, but then so is sticking your dirty glove into someone's mouth.

But yeah, I understand your opinion... even the most skilled players can be very goon-like. In my opinion though, the definition of a goon is a player whose only purpose is to pull goon-like crap all the time.

So how come Rutuu got a suspension for biting in 2009, but Borrows didn't get a suspension for Biting in 2011? The video was inconclusive? Sure looked conclusive to me. Thank god we can have a fresh slate with Shannahan next year.

^ According to the press release from NHL's Senior VP Mike Murphy, the evidence was inconclusive.
