NHL 2010/2011 season....

Canucks in 7

Going with home-country team here, but it is going to be a close season. A goalie will have to have a really bad showing for a team to lose it in less than 7.

Canucks in 6, if they play like they have been the last few weeks. If the pressure and expectations break down their mental game though...it could be messy.

Also just want to say that Boston Pizza rebranding themselves as Vancouver Pizza for the next few weeks is a brilliant stroke of marketing.

Yeah, looks like hockey is heading back to Winnipeg. It should have been Phoenix though. Not that it really matters.

Congratualtions to Winnipeg, 15 years is a long time.

Wonder what they'll name themselves, and I wonder what they're going to do with the Manitoba Moose?

Also will they continue to play in the South East this coming season or are we going to boot Minny out of ours and let Winnipeg take their place?

Everything I've read indicates that they're planning to keep us in the Southeast for the next season and then realign the conferences. Someone at TSN was speculating earlier that we would join the Northwest in place of Colorado (who would move to the Pacific - whatever changes that would cause).

As for the Moose, there were reports that they would move out to St. John's, Newfoundland.

They've started up a season ticket drive, aiming to reach 13,000 (out of a 15,015 capacity) in time for the Board of Governor's meeting in 3 weeks. And apparently the prices are in line with Ottawa, Edmonton, and Calgary.

From Bob McKenzie on Twitter regarding the name thing:

Do not believe any firm decision has been made on the name of the team but ownership appears to prefer moving away from the name Jets.

Significant public support in WPG for Jets' name is only reason why it may still be undecided.

Unless there's legal issues surrounding the Jets name (does Phoenix still own it or something?) they'd be absolutely crazy not to call them the Jets. It seems like a no-brainer to me. Wonder why they'd want to go in a different direction?

The NHL owns the Jets name, logo, etc, so there's no issue there. As for why they might want to change, it's been suggested that True North might want a fresh start and get away from the same branding of a team that really was pretty mediocre.

Plus, then they could sell new stuff alongside the old Jets stuff. :p

Yeah, I read the NHL has granted True North the rights to the Jets name if they want to use it. Personally, I like a suggestion someone made on Twitter: If they don't decide to call the team the Jets, they should revert to an old Canadian standard and be the Winnipeg Roughriders. :D

Congrats to Winnipeg!

I think you're facing a mutiny in Winnipeg from the fans if you don't go back to Jets. Sure, they are happy to get their team back, but it's being returned to them and it should be as the Jets.

Kind of feel bad for the real Thrasher fans though. No one deserves to lose a team of any kind, but Hockey just didn't work in Atlanta.

Looking forward to the finals starting.

Canucks are back-pedaling on Malhotra being cleared to play.

"This has been a day-to-day thing all along," Gillis said. "He hasn't been cleared to play yet, he's been cleared for some contact, and he gets monitored every day."
(Source: NHL.com)

I hope they're just being cautious.

I do feel bad for them, but the market just isn't there.

Georgia is NASCAR and Braves country.

I hear Winnipeg is likely to be in the SE this season, with re-alignments in the next. I don't think Minny should be out - Colorado has never made any sense in the "Northwest", nor has Dallas made any sense in the Pacific. Or Nashville in the West. All of this could be dealt with in one stroke, restoring geographical sanity ...
