NFL Talk - 2010-11 Season

That's all they're doing to him? He committed a felony and put lives in danger (even though the Jets have a chauffeur service set up) and he "sits out a quarter"?

Unbelievable. :wtf: As I sit and sweat blood over whether I can pay my mortgage and get food on the table while I cowtow to prig of a boss, I wish I'd been born a man who could throw a football. You can literally get away with anything. Drunk driving, killing a pedestrian while drunk driving, trying to murder your girlfriend, rape, dog killing.....must be nice. The Barry Sanders, Walter Paytons, and Sam Bradfords are the very rare exception.

Yes, I'm in a mood. Sue me.

First of all, Edwards was charged with a misdemeanor, not a felony. I'm not aware of any state that charges driving under the influence as a felony until the third offense. Edwards was booked and released on the charge of misdemeanor driving under the influence of alcohol.

Second, under CBA rules, the team itself can't suspend him for any sort of prolonged period of time simply because of the charge. NFL suspensions aren't an "at will" employment matter. Unless it's a matter like not showing up to practice, mouthing off to coaches, etc., suspensions are the responsibility of the league itself. The league has to perform an investigation before it can hand down a suspension, and it will almost certainly wait until the criminal case proceeds further.

Yeah, Edwards is a moron, and I fully expect the league to come down upon him with a four-game suspension when all is said and done. But he didn't commit a felony, nor did he cause harm to another human being. And there's a process that has to be followed. Settle down.

This Dolphins / Jets game is an impressive battle.
I wasn't sure what to think while watching it. I hate both the Jets and the Dolphins. But I think I hate the Jets just a bit more, so I was kind of hoping they'd lose. I think the Dolphins losing is better for the Patriots, though, not sure.

The Jets "punishing" Braylon Edwards by making him sit out a quarter is so silly. What a weird little insular world is the NFL.

it has a lot to do with how the current cba is worded.
teams used to have a lot more say how to punish players such as when the eagles suspended owens for his behaviour.

now once he is convicted he can be suspended by the nfl under the substance abuse provisions.
and since he has had an earlier substance offense this should be the second strike four game suspension.
and he may have other issues since he is on probation from ohio.
an actual conviction may effect that.

what is insane is he was supposed to be with stallworth the night before he contributed to the death of the man.
personally i am glad the nfl will do and not the jets since i dont think ryan has the stomach to sit him longer then the quater then they did tonight.

The Pats D couldn't stop Foxborough high school, much less an NFL team.

Remind me to hide under a rock when Indy or GB comes to town.

A win is a win though...

You see that's buying into the whole silly NFL reality though. That's why we have courts and a legal system, I really don't need to find out what his game world punishment will be. I guess I was saying how odd it is to say DUI = 4 games (or a quarter or whatever). Will they suspend his World of Warcraft account as well?

The 49ers have sacked offensive coordinator Jimmy Raye, probably in the aftermath of reports that the Chiefs' defense was calling out the Niners' plays at the line of scrimmage. It's probably not too hard to figure out an offense with a gameplan of "Gore up the middle, Gore up the middle, incomplete pass, punt."

I wonder if Singletary is wishing for Martz or Norv Turner right now. (Especially Turner, given that Alex Smith really thrived under him.)

Edit: And the Bills have released Trent Edwards, leaving their quarterback depth chart at Ryan Fitzpatrick > Brian Brohm > a real, live buffalo.

Edit 2: If / when the Eagles trade Kevin Kolb, that would mean that none of the quarterbacks from the 2007 draft (JaMarcus Russell, Brady Quinn, Kolb, Edwards, John Beck, Drew Stanton, Isaiah Stanback, Jeff Rowe, Troy Smith, Jordan Palmer and Tyler Thigpen) will have stuck with their original teams. Woof ... talk about one of the worst drafts for quarterbacks in history.

Ah, the Ron Turner school of offensive coordinating (as in, OMG his playcalling is truly fucking offensive). My friend and I were discussing how much more potent and competent the Bears offense seems without him around despite the relatively few personnel changes they've made from last year to this year.

Alex Smith and "thrive" don't really belong in the same sentence regardless of whether it's his fault or that of the 49ers' for having about 8,000 different offensive coordinators during his time in the league.

What's really funny is that in his postgame press conference yesterday, Singletary specifically said that Raye's job was safe. It would appear that someone higher-up informed Singletary that his job was not particularly safe were that to be the case.

Dear San Franciscans:

Please come to Arrowhead Stadium, Kansas City and pick up the remains of your football team. Any unclaimed portions will be disposed of and forgotten.

Sincerely - Kansas City

Man ain't that the truth, talk about and old fashioned ass kicking. Any team that could make the Chiefs appear to be decent must really be in a shambles.

While I'm undoubtedly enjoying the Chiefs 3-0 start, I also am not stupid enough to really think it means anything. But credit where credit is due, unlike the first 2 games where they just kind of survived, they actually played well yesterday, especially in the second half.

Singletary has all the makings of 'first coach fired midway through the season.'

The players hate him, and he gets breated often in the press.

Singletary is a technique and motivation guy, not an Xs and Os guy. That's not necessarily a bad mark for a head coach (Whisenhunt, Harbaugh, Sparano and Tomlin are all the same way), but such a coach needs to surround himself with incredibly adept and capable coordinators to handle the Xs and Os. Singletary has failed in that regard, and he's starting to look clueless out there.

I wonder if he mooned Raye before sacking him.

Glad the Bears defense has woken up tonight, because Cutler is in interception mode.

Edit: The O-Line is getting worse.

3 sacks on Cutler in 21 plays according to the announce team. Over/under on Cutler surviving the night? :wtf:

Lovie just called a time out to challenge a play he's not going to win. Way to use up two time outs at once.
