NFL Talk - 2010-11 Season

Not open for further replies.
I've just been wondering while looking at the schedule if there's a game today why the NFL always has almost all games scheduled on sundays. Wouldn't it make more sense to split up the game day to friday-saturday-sunday-monday to be able to show the maximum amount of games live without overlap of individual games?

That's more or less where pay-tv in European football seems to be headed and, maybe I'm missing something I don't know, but it strikes me as something where the NFL could still make more money than they do already.

Traditionally Friday is reserved for high school football, Saturday for college football and Sunday for the NFL. I don't think the NFL wants to go trampling over those other venues as the backlash would probably be significant.

Friday would also be a ratings wasteland, because you couldn't schedule games until after people are home from work.

Ah, ok, that makes sense, thanks (although I really don't understand why anybody gives a fuck about highschool football, but I guess that's just a cultural thing). ;)

A deeply, deeply ingrained cultural thing in some places that I would shudder to toy with. (I'm currently reading H.G. Bissinger's Friday Night Lights).

I don't get it either, and I am an American.

As for Saturday, if memory serves, the NFL is barred from playing Saturday games from Labor Day (early September here) until like the second week of December, due to an agreement with the college system. That's why you'll notice the occasional Saturday game in weeks 16-17.

As for Fridays, yeah it would be nice but you'd end up with the Monday Night Football situation where the game goes off so late half the audience can't watch if they have work the next day. It'd be nice if they had it on Friday though since the next day is Saturday.

I'm sorry, I just dislike Vick. I used to be a Falcons fan, simply because I live near Atlanta, but I hated him so much from day one. He was a ball hog, arrogant in interviews, etc.

I actually followed the quarterback he replaced, Chris Chandler, to the Bears, so I've been a Bears fan since about 2000. And no, it wasn't a racial thing.

Actually, I agree. I dislike Vick as a player. As an Eagles fan, I have to hope for the best with how he'll play, but he's not a true quarterback. His field vision, decision making, and arm strength are all sub-par. He also has (or at least had) character issues, but I'm willing to let our socially prescribed punishment work for that one. For me, I'm willing to let the guy play football. I just wish we had traded him to the Redskins instead of McNabb.

I don't think arm strength has ever been a knock on Vick. It's always been his accuracy.

Non US members might be interested to know that you can get a free weeks trial of NFL gamepass at the moment. I'm watching the Ravens game in a few hours on it.

The service is really good, i'm considering taking out the season subscription.

After 2+ pages of Vick talk I'm ready to start focusing on today's games.

My Titans vs Giants could go either way. Both teams need the early win. Both teams played quite horrible last week and are looking for some redemption. The game is @Giants so I could be starring at 1-2 come 4pm. If our offense comes to play with the intensity our defense did last week maybe not though.

Also, you would end up with teams being at a disadvantage more often by playing short weeks. For instance, teams that play on Monday night often have a difficult time turning it around in time for the next Sunday and end up playing poorly. It messes with their weekly practice and prep schedule (generally play Sunday-off Monday-film study & meetings Tuesday-practice & install game plan Weds, Thurs, Fri-practice/travel Saturday). The problem is even more pronounced when teams play on a Sunday and then have to turn around and play a Thursday game, in which case they have only 1 day of actual practice time if they're away.

Dear San Franciscans:

Please come to Arrowhead Stadium, Kansas City and pick up the remains of your football team. Any unclaimed portions will be disposed of and forgotten.

Sincerely - Kansas City

Titans win over Giants: 10-29

The offense played much better today and on the road. The Giants are going to have an Anger Managment seminar this coming week in practice I'm guessing. The Titans were helped at various times by a few of those 15yd penalties they earned.

Going to keep an eye on the Denver game cause we have them next.

You know, you win some, you lose some, it happens and we're early in the season were it's easy to say it's only one game and there are 13 weeks to go. My problem with the 49ers is how they are losing. Both in Seattle and KC they have come out and laid a big fat egg against teams they should be better than. Yeah you can put forth the excuse of the crowd noise, but really, there are no excuses. Watching the 49ers on offense is like watching Paint dry. There is no creativity, nothing to get excited about, and instead of going down the field, they typically go either left or right. One of the great things about the west coast offense was how methodical it was. Short passes, running game, slants, and stuff like that. Watching this current offense isn't the west coast offense, isn't even any kind of offense. It's dull, it's boring, and it's not going anywhere. What sucks is there is talent here. The draft picks haven't been bad (Smith has gotten a ton of time in the pocket), and Gore, Davis, and Crabtree are good players. However, Smith just isn't very good. Also, Raye is calling some terrible plays and it's reminding me of the Hostler years.

As for the defense, I'm surprised. They look slow, they couldn't control the KC running game at all, and in week 3 they just look tired. I can't explain what I'm seeing from then because I'm just puzzled by it all.

This team is in disarray right now. Perhaps I am overreacting because it's week 3, but 2 ugly losses gives me that right. This team is atrocious, and I'm starting to get tired of Singletary's Act.

I was expecting the 49ers to take this one, the Chief's offense just hasn't been delivering at all so-far. Special Teams and dumb luck have won them their first two games. I was also wondering what would happen when these two fairly strong Defenses took the field. Today I was expecting an interesting, tight, game that'd ultimately lead to the Chiefs losing.

Somehow in the week between Cleveland and now the Chiefs found their offense and pretty much dominated! I don't know who this quarterback was today that looked like Matt Cassel but I think we should keep him and let the real one rot wherever he is. And we need some more awesome play-calling (and execution) like that 3rd Quarter pass-back play. That was some wild shit!

The Jets "punishing" Braylon Edwards by making him sit out a quarter is so silly. What a weird little insular world is the NFL.

That's all they're doing to him? He committed a felony and put lives in danger (even though the Jets have a chauffeur service set up) and he "sits out a quarter"?

Unbelievable. :wtf: As I sit and sweat blood over whether I can pay my mortgage and get food on the table while I cowtow to prig of a boss, I wish I'd been born a man who could throw a football. You can literally get away with anything. Drunk driving, killing a pedestrian while drunk driving, trying to murder your girlfriend, rape, dog killing.....must be nice. The Barry Sanders, Walter Paytons, and Sam Bradfords are the very rare exception.

Yes, I'm in a mood. Sue me.

Dear Mike Shanahan,

You are cordially invited to suck it.

Sincerely,

Sam Bradford
