That's all they're doing to him? He committed a felony and put lives in danger (even though the Jets have a chauffeur service set up) and he "sits out a quarter"?
Unbelievable. As I sit and sweat blood over whether I can pay my mortgage and get food on the table while I cowtow to prig of a boss, I wish I'd been born a man who could throw a football. You can literally get away with anything. Drunk driving, killing a pedestrian while drunk driving, trying to murder your girlfriend, rape, dog killing.....must be nice. The Barry Sanders, Walter Paytons, and Sam Bradfords are the very rare exception.
Yes, I'm in a mood. Sue me.
First of all, Edwards was charged with a misdemeanor, not a felony. I'm not aware of any state that charges driving under the influence as a felony until the third offense. Edwards was booked and released on the charge of misdemeanor driving under the influence of alcohol.
Second, under CBA rules, the team itself can't suspend him for any sort of prolonged period of time simply because of the charge. NFL suspensions aren't an "at will" employment matter. Unless it's a matter like not showing up to practice, mouthing off to coaches, etc., suspensions are the responsibility of the league itself. The league has to perform an investigation before it can hand down a suspension, and it will almost certainly wait until the criminal case proceeds further.
Yeah, Edwards is a moron, and I fully expect the league to come down upon him with a four-game suspension when all is said and done. But he didn't commit a felony, nor did he cause harm to another human being. And there's a process that has to be followed. Settle down.
