They have one heckuva impressive backfield. I think all three backs - Jacobs, Bradshaw and (I forget the 3rd RB's name - Hedgecock maybe?) were averaging over 5 yds per carry coming into last night's game.
The Eagles played them tough, very tough. But the turning point came when Coughlin's challenge on the illegal forward pass by Manning was upheld. At first I thought ....what the hey? Then they explained the rule and finally found a clear bit of footage and I had to agree. Eagels never seemed to really recover after that.
With the way the Colts played last night, it's not out of the realm of possibility that we could see a Giants/Colts Super Bowl... which would be a blast. Even with the requisite overhyping

Well, that pissed me the fuck off. How long has that rule been in place? I could have sworn there was a time where it was just the ball that mattered. I can live losing to the Giants, we played them tough, it was a close game, and we'll beat them next time. I just wish everything didn't have to be so agonizing.
I had never seen the full text of the rule in question, but I had thought it only required a portion of the thrower's body to be across - ie. making contact with the ground. What I learned from this incident is that the thrower has to be completely across the line of scrimmage for the call to be valid.
The Titans are making a believer out of me. They sure don't win pretty... but they have wisely not tried to fix something that isn't broken, either. With the way their defense is playing, and how Collins is directing that offense in such a sound and steady manner... NOBODY should take them lightly. Maybe one of these days people will start looking to Jeff Fisher for opinions and guidance. The guy for the most part just keeps winning yet doesn't seem to be mentioned much at all among the league's best coaches.
Really? With the way the Colts played this year, which has been really inconsistent. They need to get through teams like the Titans and the Steelers again first.
I completely agree it'd be a tall order, but the Colts do seem to be getting healthier on defense. The biggest impediment is probably Harrison being so inconsistent this season. But the prospect of Peyton winning a Super Bowl, then Eli winning the next one, then having them face off against each other in a third one... I think it'd be fun to watch.
Definitely. The ratings would be through the roof if that happened. Still, I doubt it mainly because of that inconsistency, and like you mentioned, this isn't the Harrison we know this year.

The Niners should have won on Monday night. They turned the ball over a few too many times, but why they got so stupid in that last drive is beyond me.
What would be even more exciting, and even more unlikely, is seeing the injury-riddled Patriots in the superbowl facing the Giants.
They've lost to IR, let's see:
1. their star quaterback (ACL & MCL)
2. their lead defensive safety (quadricep)
3. their primary running back (shoulder)
4. their star outside linebacker (arm) (not on IR yet, but will be soon)
5. their other free agent safety (knee)
As for individuals who are injured and have not played in the last few games:
1. their secondary running back (knee)
2. their tertiary running back (calf)
3. their 2nd round drafted cornerback (wrist)
So with a quaterback who hasn't really played since high school, an undrafted free agent runningback and a multitude of rookies in various positions, I'd say the fact that the Pats are at 6-3 (admittedly with an easy schedule) is commendable. I'd be interested to see what they can muster up in the postseason, if they can even manage to get there.
I'd attribute it to a combination of poor play calling and situational play. Why the hell did it take >10 seconds to snap the freaking ball near the goalline. In addition, there seemed to be a bit of butting of heads between Singletary and Martz.

No, they shouldn't have. This is karmic payback for the two games they stole from Arizona last year. This year it's the Cardinals' turn. In the greater scheme of things, 'twas an entirely just sequence of events.
This Sunday is going to be full of mismatches except for Dallas/Washington and Green Bay/Chicago.
Not so fast. With the way the Jets have been playing, I doubt that either they or the Pats will be a mismatch for the other. And the Vikings / Bucs could be a fun one to watch as well. The game I really want to see is the Giants/Ravens. Two nasty good defenses slamming into each other...... ooof!

But I agree with you, the Jets have markedly improved since their second game in the season. The question really is tied to who will make the more mistakes. Lord Favre has a bit of a Jeckyl and Hyde personality when on the field, so I'm really intrigued as to whether the Patriots defense can pressure Favre into some of his well known bone-headed throws.-James
Let's not forget the top-ranked running offense, averaging over ~165 yards per game, going up against the top-ranked running defense, which hasn't allowed a 100-yard rusher in 28 games and is allowing only an average of 65 yards per game this season. Brutal!
