NFL 2021 season - Belichick Strikes Back

I’m just glad we don’t have to say “Washington Football Team” anymore. That was just fucking dumb.

I dunno. I've been watching European soccer a lot over the last couple years and I've gotten pretty used to just saying "Liverpool" or "Dortmund" or "Barcelona" or "Roma." Just referring to "Washington" seemed simple enough; the insistence on treating "Football Team" like it was an actual nickname is what struck me as really dumb.

Agreed. I found myself referring to them as "Washington" as well. It was extremely difficult, however, to force myself to stop calling them "Redskins", sometimes unsuccessfully, as I was a fan of that team since 1982. 40-year-old habits die hard. I occasionally hear the old career commentators slip up and call them Redskins as well. I think I caught it about 3 times this season alone.

Because the NFL (owners) and Gooddell are both foolish enough to think they can still make money from it. Nobody else but them really cares.

They do make money from it. Ratings are always high. People apparently want to watch defensive superstars not make plays.

Mike McDaniel is the new head coach in Miami. That leaves Minnesota, New Orleans and Houston.

I think the Washington Commandoes would have been better, but commanders works.

Eric Bieniemy is being interviewed for the Saints job

Also, Hugh Jackson never said he was paid to lose games. He said that the organization's focus was more interested in accumulating draft picks, clearing salary space etc. instead of winning.

Aren't the Vikings hiring Kevin O'Connell?

Houston rumor mill is pushing Lovie Smith to be the next head coach. Which I wouldn't mind over some of the others they've been talking to. It really doesn't matter though, the Texans organization is what comes out of the south end of a northbound cow. I expect nothing more than another disastrous season. Maybe we'll get lucky with Davis Mills.

And the Watson situation drags on and on and on..........

He'll be gone at the end of the season or next. The organization is a tire fire.

Lovie Smith has been promoted to head of coach of the Texans, will lose a lot of games in an impossible situation, then get fired.

And Flores' lawyers immediately came out with "they didn't hire our client because of his lawsuit", because, y'know, they can't claim racism anymore.

Might not be far off tho, he is shooting himself in the ass with his "class action" lawsuit. Even if he has a strong point, nothing's gonna change.

I guarantee Smith is one and done. They didn't want Smith, they wanted Josh McCown (they didn't even interview Smith until the Flores lawsuit), someone with no coaching experience at the NFL level. But that hire wouldn't look remotely good with so many qualified minority candidates out there, so the NFL leaned on the Texans to take one for the team.
