NFL 2020 Season: We're gonna bite a kneecap off

I'm not a big follower of football or any major sport, but what would happen if they open the training facilities and the players start getting sick? How do you practice social distancing in a locker room? Are they going to limit the number of players who can practice on any given day and the hours they can train?

Been watching some YouTube of corner, Damon Arnette and not such a gamble after all. He looked better than A.J. Terelle at least to me. One of the knocks on him was that he was “handsey” and picked up flags. But I like handsey corners because it means they are close to the receiver. He is an aggressive hitter and is a fighter, something I love in corners. .

His lack of speed didn’t see,m to be an issue from what I saw but he wasn’t playing against NFL receivers.

We took two more receivers in the later rounds, another corner, a safety/linebacker, and a jumbo sized guard. We still need a power. back. Zach Moss would have been perfect. Damn you, Buffalo!

Wasn't Peanut Tillman "handsy"? He wasn't a great tackler, but he could pop the ball out with the best of them.

There is no realistic way to open training camps and practice facilities until the pandemic is on a downturn (and more and more epidemiologists are saying that they believe COVID-19 will rebound as soon as temperatures cool in the fall; I am firmly of the belief we won't see professional sports return until 2021).

Every player and coach gets tested before going in, and then isn't allowed to leave for any reason once they're in camp.

Do training facilities even have on-site accommodations anymore? That might have worked when the Seahawks practiced at Eastern Washington University and the team stayed in the dorms. Nowadays the players are scattered all over and fly in for practice. They might have to rent a hotel. Though I wouldn't want to ride on the team bus back and forth to the hotel.

It'll be interesting to see how the NFL handles things if COVID-19 continues to be a huge deal through the Fall.

Goodell utilized force majeure clauses in all of the broadcast and cable NFL's contracts to make sure that the league doesn't eat a financial hit if the season is postponed or canceled.

What will really be interesting will be how teams handle the contracts already signed. De Smith picked a bad time to pick a labor war last year.

That money will have to be made up at some point, if the season were to be truncated or cancelled. The league will get its money this year, while getting slightly less broadcast revenue down the road to balance it out.

The impact I'm more thinking about is things like the Pro Bowl, Super Bowl host site, and 2021 Free Agency/Draft. Revenue will take a major hit if absolutely nothing goes on this year or if it gets severely truncated. Local revenue will pretty much shrivel up to nothing.

It is interesting to see how things play out.

Would they go with the 2020 draft order (minus swaps and trades specific to 2020) for the 2021 draft if there's no 2020 season?

When I say “handsey,” I mean a corner who doesn’t mind reaching out and grabbing or pushing or pulling the receiver because he is is always close enough. Can’t touch a receiver who has you beat by 6 or 7 yards.

From what I saw, Arnette looks like a willing and sure tackler, although there are other things I look for in a corner before tackling ability.

Agreed. I don’t think we’ve even scratched the surface of the national shutdown’s full impact yet.

At least you aren’t banking your future on a QB with a bad hip.

Are you talking about the Bengals? I learned a long time ago, with having family in Cincinnati and having lived there for three years...not to bank on anything concerning the Bengals.

Miami and Tua Tagovailoa.

Meh. He will be fine. At this point, he might get a whole 'nother year to heal up.

They said Bo Jackson would be fine, too. :shifty:

Hip injuries can be tricky, especially of the scale Tua suffered. Beyond that, he was injury prone already. I’m excited to have him, but am tempering my expectations.
