NFL 2020 Season: We're gonna bite a kneecap off

Indeed. I’m not at all sure this is an improvement. In fact, pretty sure it’s not. I wonder what the impetus was behind this decision. They say the players wanted it gone. Did they really? Maybe it’s more to speed up the game’s pacing? More time for commercials? All of the above?

I say get better zebras, or at least properly train them. I personally don’t see anything wrong with the rule. The officials these past several years, however, have sucked epic ass.

Football refs, basketball refs, umps. Maybe better and better HD TV's help us see their mistakes better, but they really all seem to have gone to crap in the last decade or so.

Former Vikings and Seahawks QB Tarvaris Jackson died in a one-car accident Sunday night. He was only 36.

Rob Gronkowski has come out of retirement and been traded to Tampa Bay for a fourth round pick.

Saw that - I wonder if Tampa is going to be the new powerhouse this year.

Will the coach and rest of the team know how to work with and use them to their fullest potential? Or is this a different kind of false "Second Coming", akin to Joe Gibbs' ill-fated return to the Skins from '04-'08? I am genuinely curious how this will pan out for them.

I think Buc's still gonna Buc no matter who they sign.

I think it could be a huge clusterfuck. You already have top dog personalities in people like Mike Evans. I'm not sure they'll want to take a back seat to Brady/Gronk. Plus, that offensive line is a mess.

Brady and Gronk are in the top five all time at their positions, but they alone are not going to drag Tampa to a championship.

They still have to get through teams like New Orleans, Green Bay and San Fran once they hit the playoffs. They are at best a wild card team.

They have a dreadful defense, which I'm not sure Brady/Gronk can overcome to get them into the playoffs. Even from their end, the Gronkowski trade doesn't make a lot of sense when they already have O.J. Howard and Cameron Brate on the roster. It seems designed to appease Brady, which won't be a good look in the locker room.

If we get a season, it'll be an interesting study. How good is Belichick and the Pats system on it's own vs. how good is Brady on his own?

Brady is obviously a GOAT candidate and that or his eventual HOF entry shouldn't be hurt by wallowing in Tampa.

I don’t understand why they would give him away?
Pretty easy: Gronk said he'd only un-retire to play with Brady again (and not for the Pats). So Pats trade a retired player for a 4th round pick, pretty straight forward. And nice to get something of some value for nothing (Gronk wasn't coming back to play for the Pats).

It's a little annoying to see the exodus, but I get it. Play for a pretty demanding and strict coach, get the wins and rings that come with it, but at the end of their careers, just want to go out and have a little fun and not be expected to put in the same kind of work/dedication/hours. Doubt it will impact how either of them is remembered, but would have preferred to see them retire at Pats obviously. Guess I can watch the sideshow and have a NFC team to casually root for.

^^^ All very good points but, if true, what Brady and Gronk expect are almost certainly not the same as what the Tampa front office and fans expect. Should be an interesting season, either way anyone cuts it (if we actually have a season, that is).

If nothing else, Gronk is still extremely valuable as a blocker and he'll make a useful distraction to help Mike Evans and O. J. Howard get open.

For sure that's the part no one is really talking about. They didn't just take 27 year old Brady and Gronk off of the Pats, they got 43 year old Brady and however old Gronk is these days but beat up. If they had the same drive to kill this year, (or last year for Gronk), imagine they'd still be wearing blue instead of creamsicle orange. But definitely feels more like the 'go out and have fun without Bill making us work as hard' vibe to it. Not to say they're mailing it in or don't want to win, but if they wanted to give what Bill wanted them to give, they'd likely have just stayed put.

Sure they'll be ok, provided that NFL even plays this year, but pretty sure Tampa thinks they got 100% Brady and Gronk and not whatever percentage they have left and want to put into it. Should be fun to watch either way.
