NFL 2020 Season: We're gonna bite a kneecap off

I'm of the theory Belichick will be a 8-8, 9-7 coach without Brady and maybe a wild card and out. His crusty demeanour and his next man up plan only work when you are winning championships. Brady dragged a cobbled together offense to at least an AFC Championship Game and you aren't going to get that from a rookie QB or Andy Dalton or whoever else they bring it. He could've retired or taken on some job in the Patriots front office and gone down as one of the top five coaches in history, but his ego wouldn't let him.

and you aren't going to get that from a rookie QB

I imagine people were talking that way twenty years ago when a young Brady took over for Drew Bledsoe. We’ll have to play the games to find out,

Eh, I'm ok with the new Patriots jerseys, the color rush option wasn't terrible for them. Disappointed to see the current one retired though, it was pretty solid. Will be nice if they can get the red alternate jersey worked in next year, it's essentially what the blue color rush option was based on so it's not much of a stretch to bring back.

Probably about right, but more a function of losing a ton of talent and not because he's overrated without Brady. Unless something crazy happens, it's just gearing up to be a step back and rebuild year. Not an embarrassing tank job like the Manning-less Colts year, but 9-7 or so sounds about right when you lose a HOF QB, some of your OL, and half your defense. Wouldn't put them in the same bucket as Dolphins post-Marino or Bills post-Kelley just yet, they'll be ok.

Probably somewhat true, but the 'play smart, be in the right position to do your job, be ready to step up' thing was also part of WHY they won, so hard to say it was just Brady and coaching wasn't a huge part of it. Sometimes it was Brady, and towards the beginning and the end it was Bill putting them in the position to succeed, IMO.

He could've retired or taken on some job in the Patriots front office and gone down as one of the top five coaches in history, but his ego wouldn't let him.
Don't understand what you're saying here at all. Do you think Bill has somehow hurt his legacy and he's slipping out of top 5 coach status? I think his legacy will be just fine, and top 5 is probably even a bit of an understatement. Could make an easy argument that he's #1, but if you aren't making a strong case for him being #1 before you land him at #2 or #3 overall it's hard to take the conversation seriously. Guy has 8 Super Bowl rings, and has appeared in over 20% of all Super Bowls. Something over a third of all of the Super Bowls since he became a defensive coordinator. If you just pick a Super Bowl at random, about a 15% chance (1 in 7) that Belichick was holding a trophy at the end of the game. And almost his entire career was in an era that tried to intentionally prevent those kinds of dynasties, and some of the rules created specifically to try and stop BILL from doing it. Twice as many rings as Chuck Noll, almost 3x as many as Bill Walsh and Joe GIbbs, 4x Lombardi, Landry, and Shula... Shula has him on total regular season wins, but Bill could still catch that in ~5 years if he turns in 9-10 win seasons. I'm sure he's thinking about that number when he figures out how long he wants to coach for, he's 55 off the total right now.

Whatever you think of his demeanor or ego, I think history will be ok with the job he did. ;)

Much like a great band when they split up, Belichick and Brady won’t likely reach the heights apart that they did together.

For most of the same reasons: worth more together than sum of the parts, and past their peaks. :)

Both dead locks for HOF already though, so really no harm in Brady going out to try and have a little fun and make a little extra money in warm weather. And if the Pats don't start to suck totally and turn in 5-6 win seasons, I can see Bill trying to hold on to top Shula for total wins. Only needs 5-6 years if the team is at least mediocre, and lets him try to build one more winner without Brady.

Don't think either of them (to use your band analogy) is going to end up playing bars or high school gyms; they'll be ok as solo acts even if they can't recreate their peak performances.

Really glad the Raiders took Henry Ruggs ar #12. My fear going into the draft was that the Broncos might move up to grab him. Ruggs is an explosive talent who catches the ball when open and in traffic. The Raiders have some really good possession receivers and Ruggs’ presence should make it easier for those guys to function underneath.

With CJ Henderson and A.J. Terrell off the board at #19, Raiders gamble on what has been described as a tough-guy corner, who runs a 4.5. Not good, but if he plays good press coverage, it may be enough. We’ll see.

We need an inside runner and Dline going forward. No second rounder, so we’ll get another shot starting Saturday.

I don't follow CFB so I'm not all that familiar with any of the Patriots' picks so far, but at least in terms of positions I'm pleased. One safety, two linebackers and two tight ends. All big needs.

Ryan Pace struck gold for the Bears. He got two first round talents in the second round.

With Pace's record, they'll end up playing like 7th rounders and be gone in 2 or 3 years. Or be injured most of the time.

We got the two 2nd rounders, no 3rd or 4th rounders, three 5th rounders and two 7th rounders. Gonna be another long year, but hey, at least we'll have a new management team next year. Even Virginia's loyalty (ie: stubbornness) has it's limits.

Have the Bears traded "up" somewhere? I thought we had 7 overall picks, now it's 6. Four of the later picks are "through" multiple other teams.

Always a frustrating weekend to be a Patriots fan. It’ll probably work out just fine, but never really get that emotional bump most teams get...

No complaints, definitely an amazing run over the past 20 years. Just annoying watching them pass over decent prospects over and over again and then try to figure out which random D2 school the unranked prospect came from. And why we used a high pick on him. Sometimes works out, sometimes trying to be way too cute

Been watching some YouTube of corner, Damon Arnette and not such a gamble after all. He looked better than A.J. Terelle at least to me. One of the knocks on him was that he was “handsey” and picked up flags. But I like handsey corners because it means they are close to the receiver. He is an aggressive hitter and is a fighter, something I love in corners. .

His lack of speed didn’t see,m to be an issue from what I saw but he wasn’t playing against NFL receivers.

We took two more receivers in the later rounds, another corner, a safety/linebacker, and a jumbo sized guard. We still need a power. back. Zach Moss would have been perfect. Damn you, Buffalo!
