NFL 2020 Season: We're gonna bite a kneecap off

This week I've received a few emails from the Rams letting me know that the schedule is being announced Thursday (today) with links to buy tickets.

I just keep thinking "Who are you kidding?" Is anybody going to lay down money for season tickets right now?

Denial, much?

I think I'll try watching a game on the patio when the missus is working late, it would be nice out there after dark, the string lights on, and some cold ones.

There's a thin line between that and wishful thinking. Looks like they're attempting a "build it and they will come" approach. Behind the curtain, they're probably a little more realistic than what they're projecting to the outside world and they're likely planning for an epic fail of season ticket revenue. They're just crossing their fingers that people might actually show up.

Cynically, I wonder if they want the money, and when the season is cancelled they'll apply the payments to next year or some bullshit like that.

There's no way they can honestly think there are going to be fans at games this year.

I imagine it will hit family owned teams like the Raiders (Bengals, Steelers are also in that boat) especially hard. Especially if there is no season. Davis has got a $650 million dollar loan to repay to Bank of America for his temple in the desert.

Those who have football as the base of their wealth may not survive this.

Mahomes may end up as the greatest of all-time if he keeps it up.

For football nerds...

this my 2 cent on this. If the death rate goes down by Sept. we have football with fans. if go up to 200.000 NO ONE will be thinking about Football. they be think about staying alive. that is the people that still alive that is! and some of the dead will be NFL player! so let hope it go down!

If this thing follows the Spanish Flu model, it will be throttling back during the warmer months (numbers have already started leveling off and even gone down in some states) and coming back with a vengeance in the fall when the temperatures start to drop. If that happens, then yeah, it will be sequestration all over again. If not, and this thing continues its downward trend into nothingness, then life will definitely start returning to a cautious “old” normal. Only time will tell at this point.

It will be interesting to see how things play out. At the very least, I imagine we will have a modified training camp with various units not interacting with other units and the pre-season will be cancelled.

Was thinking the same thing. Unfortunately, such a schedule will likely lead to damaged unit cohesion, resulting in an epic dumpster fire of a season. :sigh:

It will be a unique situation for teams that will likely spend more time together on Sunday this season than the rest of the week combined. Places like Chicago, Cincinnati, Tampa Bay, Indianapolis, and New England will be interesting to watch as they try to install new QB's into what they are doing.

FWIW ~ Nothing’s been etched in stone but the NBA is talking about not having fans back until there is a vaccine. But the NBA has been pretty aggressive in it’s response to the virus and the NFL has Roger Goodell.

Hell, we wouldn't have had the response across the sports world that we did if Rudy Gobert hadn't been an idiot and gone on the court after being exposed, leading to the NBA being the first league to shut down.

So, you watch these older games available on YouTube, and sometimes a minor player sticks out and makes you wonder what happened in his life after football. I was watching a 1977 game between the Rams and Browns in Cleveland, and the guy that stuck out was third string QB Dave Mays, who was starting because of injury to the Browns other QB's.

Doing some Google on Mays was... interesting. He was a dentist already by the time he was an NFL QB, which is cool. Later on, he was tried and acquitted of trying to murder another dentist he sold his practice to. Also, he served five years in prison for welfare fraud and also involved in a housing scandal in Cleveland, where houses were being sold for $100.

Quite a life after football.
