NFL 2019 Season

In a division of mismanaged teams, the AFC South champion Texans are the best mismanaged team of them all!

I can't wait to find out who we lose to in the playoffs.

I kinda hate that the Bills play in the same division as the Patriots, I've always kind of liked them and I wish I could be glad that they're having such a good season.

Edit: No one wanted to take a crack at my Running up the Score question? Makes sense, as while it's used as a talking point, never seen what the 'right' answer was supposed to be, so may not be one.

My take is that there's no such thing as "running up the score" in professional sports, in my opinion. This ain't High School football. These are grown men who make millions of dollars, both players and coaches. The objective is to win. Period. You have a defense staffed with professional athletes and coached by professional coaches. Their job is to stop the offense. That's their entire job. It's not the winning team's job to throttle back so the losing team's fans don't feel badly.

Do business feel bad when they steel market share from competitors or completely bury them? Is it unsportsmanlike to put a competitor out of business?

No different here. Again...youth and HS sports are a completely different story.

@Scout101 My personal "beef" with the Patriots relates to their vaunted game plans and 2nd - half "adjustments" both of which have repeatedly been praised as being genius level dissections of the opposing team's strengths and weaknesses.
You know what strengthens your ability to game-plan?
Illicit collection of information.
Of course the argument will be - "It ain't wrong if you don't get caught" but I find that a cynical and irritating world view.

Pair that with a fanbase with a hoodie sized chip on their shoulder.... it certainly encourages the kind of open ridicule and rush to judgment that the Patriots "suffer" from each season.
It will also heighten the intensity of schadenfreude the rest of us will experience when Brady retires and the wheels come off.

So a few of things here:

1. "Illicit information" as nothing to do with the success or effectiveness of in-game adjustments. Half time adjustments are made looking at the game plan of your opponent, as it is being executed against you, during the first half of play. You look at their personal packages, matchups they've established, and down-and-distance tendencies by alignment, and often simply "what has worked well for us" and you work from there.

It's completely unique to the game you're currently playing.

2. The fan base has a chip on their shoulder? Why? They win more than anyone else has over the last 20 years. There are FAR worse fanbases in my biased yet humble opinion.

3. I always get a big chuckle out of the "Yeah...well, when Brady and Bellichick leave, the Patriots will suck and then the day WILL BE OURS!!!" arguments. Like....ok....they've been a dynasty for two fucking decades. Does anyone really think it's going to be some kind of surprise that the success doesn't just go on for eternity? Does anyone really think that the inevitable end of that dynasty will ever somehow undo the 2 decades that we've all lived through?

Nah.

What a pathetic showing against the Dolphins. No urgency, lack of effort. Didn’t feel like their year either way, but this will help cement it

I'm quite glad to see my Lions seasons end. It has brutally difficult to watch this team literally self-destruct all year. They were the victims of ref-ball on either side of their bye week against Kansas City and the Packers and just couldn't seem to get over that. The loss of Stafford was the nail in the coffin and hopefully they will look to scoop up a younger QB in either the draft or free agency to eventually take the reins or at least be able to guide the ship if Stafford goes down.

I am quite happy to see both the Cowboys and Steelers eliminated today.

Titans squeeze into the playoffs, woot!

The reward: go play in Foxborough when the Pats are angry at having to host a wild-card game... and also try and make them lose twice in a row at home. Fuck. :p

Still... I'm actually somewhat optimistic. When Tannehill and Henry and AJ Brown are on their game - which is more often than not - it's a damned good offense. I don't expect them to make it all the way, but feeling really good about the foundation.

Again though: yay! But fuck. :p

A lot of people didn't expect the Browns to fire Freddie Kitchens, but I guess losing to the Bungles was enough to make that decision for them. Now Redskins president Bruce Allen is out. Redskins reportedly hiring the best of the retreads Ron Rivera as HC.

Shurmur out as Giants HC.

How many more walking dead? How many more retreads? Who will be the next hand puppet for Jerry Jones?

My Bears will no doubt be keeping Nagy and the status quo. Probably let him play out his contract, the cheapskates.

I was surprised either of these guys were hired to begin with.

Stephen A. agrees

Who will be the next hand puppet for Jerry Jones?

The question becomes: is the allure of coaching the Cowboys still enough to bring in someone who is willing to put up with Jerry? Its like the Yankees or Red Sox in baseball or the Lakers or Knicks in basketball. Will someone be willing to put up with him in order to be the one to restore "America's Team" to glory?

On the other hand, will anyone want to come to Washington and put up with Snyder and a pretty empty roster? Or the Giants, who outside of Barkley and Jones have nothing else promising going on?
