NFL 2019 Season

The dynasty may be coming to an end, if they have to cheat to beat the Bengals.
Agreed, aside from what they're saying this 'scandal' is. Would love to see the footage, but the story is that they were doing a story on the advance scouts, and at some point the field was in the footage. If the footage is just zoomed in on the coaches on the sidelines, have at them for being stupid, but the only people hinting at that were the ones trying to get clicks for Spygate 2.0MG!

Also, sorta weird to have told the Browns and asked permission to do it ahead of time, and then 'get caught' for doing that. Guess they didn't also talk to the Bengals, or whatever? Could be wrong, but this just feels like the League trying to change the page from the latest Ref controversy by sprinkling a little "Patriots caught Cheating!" blood in the water...

There was also the oddity about some of the Chiefs' equipment being accidentally sent to Newark Airport and barely got it to Gillette Stadium in time this past Sunday. Everyone's saying it was an "honest mistake", but in light of the Pats' proven history in this regard, one wonders if Belichick made a call? :shifty:
Know this one is a joke, but Chiefs are in charge of their own crap. Sorry if they are stupid, but unlikely Belichick arranged a secret cabal of airline baggage handlers to secretly mishandle the Chiefs' bags. It's the Away Team's responsibility to show up and bring their own shit. Maybe if their owner wasn't too cheap to buy his own plane, using a charter service instead...? Pats can't have the bags forget to be unloaded because the plane stays with the team... ;)

Just seems odd they didn't ask the Bengals, considering it was there coaches they were focusing on...

the 'focus' was on the work the Patriots' advance scouts were doing. and they were filming the work from the Browns' box as I heard it reported? Depending on where on the field that is, just may be that the Bengals were the ones across the way, and thus visible in the shots? Asked the Browns because they were hosted in their booth as i understand it.

Which makes sense anyway, as the scout was there to observe the Bengals, note tendencies, etc. He's not watching the Browns, so the Bengals need to be in sight to do the job.

I thought Belichick was claiming they had no attachment to the team, that they were filming a web series or something?

I don't know...

Imagine being a Bengals staff member sitting down to watch the game in the second row of the press box, when somebody sits down in front of you during the first quarter, pulls out a video camera and starts recording.

You watch and see the viewfinder locked on the Cincinnati sideline and realize the videographer is connected to the New England Patriots, wearing Boston Bruins gear.

This is what happened on Sunday in Cleveland. Unbelievably, considering the history of such offenses.

What happened next included Bengals executives getting involved, then NFL security and eventually the video being confiscated and turned over to the league, which is currently reviewing the matter. And depending on who you talk to, there are differing accounts of what happened that could be significant in determining intent.

According to sources who have viewed the tape, it shows about eight minutes of footage focusing on recording the Bengals’ sideline. It’s a direct view of the sideline as players run on and off the field and coaches make signals for plays.

This isn’t an over-the-shoulder of the advanced scout who is doing his job stuff. This is shooting the sideline. For an extended period of time. The egregious nature of the video is why it set off the firestorm it did during the game with the Bengals executives in the press box.

From The Athletic.

Eh, makes sense if you think about it. The Bengals have a new staff with an entirely new set of signals the Patriots don't have tape on or experience with.

Just look at the Rams game tapes from last year, then multiply the shitty player and incompetence factor by 10. :techman:

I strongly suspect that the Patriots' amazing ability to adjust to the strengths and weaknesses of their opponents is directly due to their ability to collect information in "creative" ways.
This is exactly what I was thinking. It is a lot easier to look like a great coach, great quarterback, great defense, great special teams, if you have an edge your opponent does not.

The other thing is, why would the Pats do this considering the organization's credibility is pretty much in the toilet. Did no one think that even if they were doing something legitimate, it might still be construed as a nefarious act because of the team's reputation?

From a PR standpoint, it's aiming a gun at your foot and pulling the trigger no matter if the Pats are eventually found innocent.

I can believe there’s some innocent explanation, but given their history, why would they even approach this territory? You’d think they’d be pretty fucking aware of the optics.

Honest question: What do you think the Pats are doing that other teams don’t, aside from winning? Know it will get snarky answers, but legit do you think it’s 31 choir boys and Belichick?

I’ve seen that site before. The grand irony there is that the Giants and the Redskins are probably the most cheating fuckers out there, and yet they suck so bad they can’t even do THAT right!
