NFL 2018 Season

That mojo the Bears have in this first half tonight against Green Bay, is the mojo the Raiders likely won't have tomorrow night against the Rams. Rooting for Khalil and the Bears tonight.

Touchdown Khalil Mack!!!

Wow.
Oh, we didn't need this guy. Who needs all those hurries, forced fumbles, interceptions, sacks, and general mayhem he causes.

I totally get Gruden's plan now; we'll use one of those first rounders we got from the Bears, and draft ANOTHER Khalil Mack. We just have to wait for him to fall to us in the teens or higher because the Bears look pretty good.

God dammit. This is why you make sure to break Aaron Rodgers when you have the chance. Still, scoring again after the early 3rd quarter would've helped.

You're not the only one. Ratings were down across the board for the season opener. The sport looks like it may be having some real longevity problems.

As much as I'd like to see football die, this argument doesn't hold water, because television ratings in general are trending downward, and the NFL still dominates broadcast television. Declining ratings are not unique to football.

Watched a bit of RedZone yesterday. Even with seven games going on in the 1pm slot, there was still a lot of dead time where nothing was going on.

Some thoughts...

Pittsburgh should have destroyed Cleveland. Six turnovers is insane.

Can't fall on a QB now? I'm all for safety, but this is still football. If you are on the field you should be prepared to be hit just like any other player.

Is DeShaun Watson now RGIII, part II?

I don’t know.

Going into the Black Hole on Monday night. Chucky’s back....

I don’t expect to win this game.

This first game is kind of a dud. I muted it at the start of the second quarter and forgot it was on.

And as much as I don't want to see the Rams rack-up wins, I kind of hope they destroy the Raiders, especially after Mack's performance last night just to emphasize what dumb move it was.

Wow!

Better than I expected.

Yeah baby!!!

These two posts summarize the mentality of fandom completely.

You could be a Vikings fan thinking like that. Come on over. We have lutefisk and aquavit.

I wanted the AFC team to win for selfish reasons, but the Rams looked good (dammit!).

I'm not sure what the deal is with Gruden. I've always thought his reputation was overblown. Yeah, he had that good run with TB in 2002, but that's it. Take that season away and his career coaching record is a pedestrian 83-78, (45-51 at TB without 2002). Take away 2002 and he's also only 2-4 in the playoffs.

Is it 2019 before the Rams can change uniforms? I think I read somewhere that they're stuck with what they've got until then. They're getting rid of the gold trim, right? God, I hope so. The plain white and blue were classy and sharp. You look at that and immediately think of Roman Gabriel, Merlin Olsen, Deacon Jones, and Jack Snow. Those were top five uniforms across any sport.

I think they’ll change in 2020, when the new stadium opens.

The NFL loosened its jersey regulations, and I’m pretty sure the Rams will be wearing the classic Royal Blue and Yellow jerseys for most of their home games this year.

Gruden was a major misstep that will bite the Raiders in the ass for the next decade. I do wonder if he'll even be with the team when they make it to Vegas in 2020.

I love the classic Rams home shirts. I had a Flipper Anderson one when I was nine or ten. They were my third favorite team after the Vikes and Chiefs.

Speaking of Chiefs, the last time I saw Pat Mahomes throw fastballs like that, they were three feet off the plate. Kid looks like he's going to be a lot of fun to watch. I might have to jump back on the bandwagon.

Meh. Even Cubby and BoSox fans can no longer claim to have the same degree of soul rot.

Which brings up an interesting point about Gruden. Certainly, the Mack trade was pure dumbassery, but the guys on the broadcast last night were calling it "the worst NFL trade ever." Aside from being way too premature to judge objectively, they seem to have forgotten some guy named Herschel Walker.

But I agree with Bill that bringing him in and paying him what they did was a total blunder by the organization and is as silly as when the Vike brought Bud back in '83. Yet Chucky was never half the coach Grant was and they're paying him a helluva lot more.

I have three jerseys: Marshall Faulk, Orlando Pace, and Jack Youngblood. I also have the framed and autographed one I posted earlier.

Meeting Orlando Pace at the playoff game while I was wearing his jersey was a real highlight of my fandom.

Well, Grant was just a quick placeholder after the dismal failure of Les Steckel. I'd equate Gruden going back to the Raiders more to Gibbs going back to Washington. Gibbs came back after being out 12 years, stayed for four, and did make the playoffs twice.

Gruden seems like a celebrity-coach hire with the eye on the Vegas move and rolling into town with a loud-charismatic coach. He'll last a couple seasons in Las Vegas, but I wouldn't bet on more (see what I did there?).
