NFL 2018 Season

I think there's a good chance they pull an upset this weekend. And then they have four very winable games after that.

5-0 isn't out of the realm of possibilities.

I really hope for a win over Green Bay anytime and that Khalil Mack is finally the one to snap Aaron Rodgers in half like a twig.

He doesn't have to improve much for the Bears to be better. They were "very close" last year. Mack definitely puts them in the top 15 defenses if not top 10 and there's enough around Trubisky for him to succeed.

in fact, I'd argue he has a better team around him than Rodgers does.

Plus, I really, really want the Packers to finish last in the division with Rodgers.

It isn't about the salary cap, it is about cash flow. Which are two distinct things. Khalil Mack is going to get $41 million this year, something I guarantee Davis couldn't do. Because they could have easily converted some other salaries to bonuses to make Such a deal fit into their cap. Mack was already taking up $13+ million dollars in cap space.
How a 41 million bonus is paid out was negotiable to the mutual satisfaction of Mack and the Raiders. But, if I'm not mistaken, there really were no substantive negotiations. Supposedly, the Raiders hadn't talked to Mack since February of this year.

If a team is serious about retaining the service of it's best player, hiring a new coach and not having that coach contact that player is not the best plan. If the Raiders wanted Mack to take less money up front or whatever, perhaps they could have worked it out, but you don't do that by refusing to contact the player for months and months...and he was their BEST player.

I believe the Raiders had the money, they just didn't want to give it to Mack. They could have, but Gruden and the team apparently believe they can do without him.

Last night's game was one of the main reasons I was wishing I watched the Flyers instead. The NFL is so flag happy it's ruining the product.

It's not a matter of being flag-happy. It's a matter of the NFL taking token measures to "improve player safety," instead of admitting that football is a fundamentally unsafe game that ruins the bodies and minds of the people who play it.

Happy week 1. This is probably my 3rd or 4th favorite sports day of the year (The first being the day of the Kentucky Derby). It's a new season, everyone (Other than Philly and Atlanta) is 0-0 and hope springs eternal. I don't expect the 49ers to win today, but I do hope they don't get blown out. If they do win, it will be a very very happy sunday.

Surprises for the early games:
Bucs 48 - Saints 40 Never expected Tampa to win a shootout against New Orleans
Browns 21 - Steelers 21 Cleveland was down 14 in the 4th quarter
Ravens 47 - Bills 3 Weren't the Bills supposed to be better....again?
