Next! Your choice for the next Doctor.

It'll change again in five minutes no doubt but for now Jodie Whittaker has managed the impressive feat of knocking Kris Marshall off the top spot for the first time in months. Not bad for someone who was on no one's radar a week ago. Could we be at the point where people in the know have started making their very safe bets?

Absolutely. It needs to have Phoebe Waller-Bridge doing something backstabbery to Kris Marshall, while Patterson Joseph sits in the corner looking on while he drinks his cognac, and then there's the dramatic reveal of the unexpected candidate, and why is Matt Smith hanging around?
I'd pay to watch that! :D

Sounds promising. I'd be quite happy with Jodie Whittaker.

I would agree it is nice to have an actor your not too aware of before the casting, however I already knew of Peter Capaldi from The Thick of It, which is a excellent series.

I didn't know Matt or David at all. Knew Chris but he always played intense, grim sorts so his initial grinning and cheerful Doctor (with an underlying angst, obviously) took me by surprise.

I loved Peter in The Thick of It and have enjoyed him in many roles over the years. I was sort of expecting Malcolm Tucker in space, as were many viewers, and I think his association with that role initially made it hard for Moffat to write for him. However, he really found his feet as the Doctor in the second series, IMHO. It was a few weeks into this latest season that my wife and I agreed that we just didn't see or think of Malcolm at all any more; he was just totally The Doctor.

I was wrong. Less than 24 hours to go and she's still there. So maybe we really are poised for a big leap forward.

Either that or a Ginger Git.

I think the time is perfect for them to gender flip the Doctor or at least a have an actor of color. They do it on the next regeneration and they will be behind the conversation, they will be catching up.

It's weird, I was thinking I'd never seen her in anything but it turns out I've seen her in quite a few things; Marchlands(with Alex Kingston) A Thousand Kisses Deep and Attack the Block!

Well, if we go by the the betting, which was right with Capaldi, it's either Jodie Whittaker, Phoebe Waller Bridge, or Kris Marshall. We know the BBC want a Tennant type like Treadaway... I'd just love it to be someone totally out of left field who's name has never been mentioned yet...
