I would have loved to see a Mirror Universe episode of TNG. I don't know if one was ever planned, or even thought of, but...
You should probably check out Diane Duane's 1994 novel Dark Mirror. It's fantastic.
There is a Star Trek: Mirror Universe anthology series as well. Glass Empires & Shards and Shadows in particular depict the TNG era, and feature mirror counterparts of Picard, Troi, Riker, & Barclay.
Dark Mirror is an awesome book that would have made a great 2-part episode, with a little bit of paring down. I've read it at least 3-4 times, probably going to read it again soon.
If it were up to me the only MU eps would be in TOS and Ent.
I've always had this idea that the mirror universe TNG would be the TNG crew being space pirates and their ship would have been the TOS Enterprise. Some older Starfleet ships survived the fall of the Empire and even though most if it's old relics at this point this one ship still being used though with some modern upgrades of course. My crew was
1 Riker is the captain and he basically Han Solo.
2 Troi is second in command and married to Riker. She actually owns the ship because her family bought it years ago and she has sort of put in charge of fixing it up and maintain. She isn't really a great warrior when it comes to fist fights but she knows everything about the ship and what it can do. She is good at strategy.
3 Data is a battle Androids created by a captive Soong that RIker rescued. Data basically has the same personality only he has no problem with killing and is good at it. Was stolen from the Alliance.
4 Picard is the ships pilot. Not very smart and always with a bad attitude but a great pilot.
5 Dr Crusher=A New agey type of witch doctor. She is the best they could fine for medical help.
6 LaForge=Blind for real because he has no visor. He still a brilliant engineer and the engine room has been designed to service someone who is blind by lots of things being voice activated.
7 Worf- Had his memory wiped after they rescued him from the Resistance. He's basically muscle for various capers. He knows he can't return his people since he got defeated on DS9 and he also knows he use to be someone important but he has few options so he stays.

I think it's that the Empire wasn't entirely defeated by DS9's time, they had a few ships and were still in control of Sol.
I'd love to see Mirror Jean-Luc, goatee or no goatee.

What would become of Tasha Yar and Ro Laren, if they were a part of this?
Ro Laren is Picard's wife and a fellow pilot.
Tasha Yar is dead but her voice was used for the computers voice.
Guinan runs a makeshift bar on the ship
Wesley Crusher is nurse or assistant to his mom in sickbay.

I don't know I could see Mirror Picard as a somewhat older Han Solo type in such a scenario. Patrick Stewart in the 80s could have definitely pulled the look of and the character as well.
Maybe Mirror Riker would still be the first officer but he'd be the type who looks for ways to get rid of the captain and take control of the ship, but Picard is always one step ahead and finds his attempts amusing.
Mirror Troi could completely exploit her abilities (maybe even in ways Normal Timline Betazoids never would dare to) and manipulate both Picard and Riker with her abilities and good looks?

I 've wondered more than once why TNG was the only series that didn't have a "evil mirror crew" episode of some kind. TOS, DS9, and ËNT had the mirror universe, VOY not, but had the holosimulation of "Living Witness". TNG only had Lore (ok, and Thomas Riker but he wasn't exactly evil).
TBF, "Yesterday's Enterprise" was their alternate universe in a darker setting.
^true that, forgot about them. They still seem essentially the same people as our prime crew though, just with a much darker history. But I agree they would probably come closest in all of TNG.
