News? Stories from Dubious Sources

Ultimately, I think it comes from a wish to see Paramount/CBS fail in a way that makes them sell Trek to conform to the fan's image. As if the new ownership would somehow conform the way fans insist Trek must be made. :guffaw:

The fans are complaining about Strange New Worlds (They done gone and gave Nurse Chapel a spine! )

Who cares? The sexual orientation of fictional characters is not why I watch the show with rocket ships and ray guns.
You might not care, but a lot of these bigoted, ignorant types find any presentation of a character who isn't a binary heterosexual white male as "virtue signaling" and a stealth attempt at "liberal indoctrination".

Funny story, I once saw a video review for video game where one of the idiot reviewers said the game reminded them of the Star Trek franchise, "before it started having women on". I'd love to see this guy's imaginary version of TOS where all characters (including crew members in mini-skirts) were male and Kirk made out with a bunch of dudes. Totally Hetero.

Toxic fanboys/fangirls?
Ignoring them is my preferred way.

I get that. I just am flabbergasted by the things fans find to care about.

What is the hold up on announcing a new Trek series? We were promised announcements like more than a year ago...

From Variety in 2021:
Kurtzman and McNamara say there are still “conversations” about a new “Star Trek” series around Michelle Yeoh’s Philippa Georgiou and the mysterious Section 31, and there are other “Trek” shows in development that haven’t been previously announced. But they emphasized that the current five-series slate will likely not expand further until at least one of the shows runs its course.

“We’re very careful about curating the pacing — the number of shows at any given time — and what those shows are, so that we make sure that it’s always exciting when there’s a new track show coming out,” says McNamara. The rough schedule, she says, is to debut “a new ‘Trek’ a quarter” on Paramount Plus.

While this doesn't completely rule out announcing another show earlier, waiting until Picard wraps up would make a lot of sense. And they've already teased the Section 31 and Starfleet Academy shows many times. (In fact, both are mentioned in the above article.)

But we've also been promised announcements 'soon', nearly two years ago... Even last year a Paramount executive said there would be news on Section 31 forthcoming. That was in February or March or something. I do wonder what the behind scenes turmoil is, especially regarding Section 31. Announcing a show 3 or 4 years ago officially and then just not say anything official at all is very weird.

Man, because FIVE series, consisting of SIXTY episodes over a year period isn’t enough. These shows aren’t cheap. And we have no idea the ratings of these shows are and where on the spectrum they’re performing for Paramount +. Perhaps while there were plans for Section 31, real life interfered, including the lead’s Star rising. Perhaps there was a worldwide pandemic in the time since the series was first discussed. Perhaps the fans were more interested in a Pike series. Perhaps we’re in the middle of crazy inflation that might have made Paramount be more cautious on what is is they wanted to produce. But nah, instead, let’s just focus on vague promises.

It wouldn't be the first TV series to enter development and not get made. Or even the first Trek series. Meyer's Khan series went the same way until it was revived as a podcast.

There's nothing particularly mysterious here.

I always thought it was probably unlikely to happen when SNW became the obvious Disco spin-off. I guess Section 31 is still on the back burner, and there are other projects we know of that are in development.

Speaking of the Khan series, Terry Matalas said recently in an interview that he was in talks to work on it before it was shelved as a TV series. He put his foot in the door when Discovery was announced, wanting to work on something, that's how he got Picard Seasons 2 and 3.

They mentioned it again less than two weeks ago as still being in development.

Plans change.

Covid-19 threw a big wrench in the works with respect to that.
