New uniform

Can I just note that I squeed all teenager-like when I saw the green blood?

Injured in a starship crash, maybe?

I like the richness of the red and blue on the new uniforms.

Wonder if Kirk's will be gold or green? Now's the time correct things. :)

I doubt we'll ever see a regular green uniform for Kirk. A one-off leisure outfit, maybe, as a brief homage to the wrap-around, but not a standard issue thing. As much as we all know how that's what it should be, the iconic "Command Gold" is far more engrained in the generic movie-goer psyche then the green, an audience for whom the recent movies have been targeted with greater focus than in the past. There have been an acceptable amount of other fan-service Easter eggs to keep the more fervent Trek fans in line elsewhere. ;)

Yeah. You probably knew I was being (mostly) facetious.

Gold it is. Gold it will be.

However, I will honestly say that they were a few times in ST09 and STID where to me at least, under certain lighting and at certain angles, the pattern in the gold command uniforms did seem to create a hint of a greenish-gold overall in the shirt. That said, unless I'm the only one who saw it, I know it's purely coincidence, and no one in costumes or production could've planned for that. (The scene in the brig in ST09 is one place in particular where the lighting made the tunic seem greenish-gold to me.)

Y'know, I think you're right, I recall seeing it too. Very faint and subtle, in the more reflective "insignia" part of the pattern. I thought it was just my imagination or trick of the eye. Glad others noticed it as well and that I wasn't having a seizure or something...

You can really see the green of that shirt here. Likely a trick of light and shadow, but it almost seems to shade more towards the green end of the spectrum than anything else, when visible. Maybe it's a reflection of blue light and, when mixed with the gold of the non-reflective part of the fabric, gives the mixture a greenish tinge. I honestly don't know, but it is definitely there.

So maybe this is one of those Easter eggs I mentioned earlier, where the shirt has hints of green but, due to specific lighting conditions, shows up gold.

Looking at the Quinto pic, I'm wondering if the tunic we've seen on Scotty and now Spock is less a new uniform and more a field variant. With the cut and shape, it reminds me very much of a windproof jacket.

Well, now that we've confirmed we're both sane -- .

I think part of it is also that over the decades, Kirk's TOS uniform as it's appeared in everything from comics to ornaments to Halloween costumes and t-shirts has been an almost orange-gold to a mustard yellow color. It appeared that way on TOS sometimes, but it could also appear as a more muted or cooler gold, too.

I think you're right that of the two tones of gold on the ST09 and STID uniforms, at least one reflects a greenish tint in some kinds of lighting. In an odd way, the ST09 and STID command uniforms uphold the mystery of, "What the hell is the real color of Kirk's uniform, anyway?"

Mr. Qunto just posted this on his Instagram. Fascinating.

Are those snowy mountains in the background?

I must say, I think the new unis are a mistake. The previous ones were generally liked - these look too stiff and formal; awkward and boring.

Thats just a tarp. Looks like part of a tent or a pavilion for sun protection during breaks.

Tyr

The god of war hath spoken.

But yeah, you can kinda see seams and creases, so probably a light beige tarp.

I'd like to see more of these new color uniforms before making any judgement, the previous one were a little tee-shirt like in their simplicity (so therefore more like the TOS ones).

I preferred the S3-7 TNG uniforms over the S1-2 versions, because they looked more like uniforms and less like onesies.

I just saw on Facebook, a company called ANOVOS is selling Star Trek Beyond shoulder patches. And the film's not even out for a year...

I wonder if they may be the new formal uniforms, moving away from the all gray ones from Into Darkness?

a shit uniform for a shit set of characters in a shit series of movies

only fitting

Please, tell us how you really feel.

I will never understand the propensity of expending effort to announce how much one unequivocally dislikes something in a place where most people likely enjoy that something. I could, for instance, find a forum with fans of Harlequin Romance novels and "shit all over" those books, but why would I? It won't change any fan's mind, it won't contribute to any meaningful discussion of literature and, most importantly, it would require I read such books. Better to just skip them (since I'm convinced I would hate the experience) and ignore the fans of such books. With the time and effort saved, I could do something pleasant.
