Until we see them wearing those in the ship I'm not convinced the previous uniforms are out.
I'm guessing that's sand in the background.
What classic car are they destroying this time?I'm guessing that's sand in the background.
You were right.
Filming in a quarry in Richmond BC.
you can see the shadow of his seat
You can clearly see that its not sand but a tarp. There is a seam directly behind Quintos head. Also you can see the shadow of his seat right on some creases on the lower side of the tarp, which indicates that it is mere centimeters away from it. And the upper part of the tarp is brighter because more light is shining through as compared to the increasingly darker areas on the lower side where the creases are. The tarp is lets less and less light shine through the more its beeing folded. And for the last, you can see stains on the tarp that you typically get when the tarp is stored folded.
Agreed - just looks very off. I don't think it's the weird angle that the picture was taken at, either, as the Simon Pegg photo of a red version of the top doesn't really look any better, IMO. I do, however, like the more tailored look to the shoulders and seams. The collar looks weird.

Filming in a quarry in Richmond BC.![]()
I believe it was a 1965 Corvette that Kirk drove off the cliff in ST09. Also, I don't think they actually destroyed the car.As long as I don't see any more late-60's-era Dodge Chargers get smashed. I love those cars and it seems to have been quote in-vogue for various movies in the last decade to kill that particular model of vehicle. They're not getting any less rare, either...![]()
Maybe not a tarp as much as a tent. He could be taking a break inside a tent if they really are filming a "desert" scene at that quarry.
Probably cooler in there. Same material as a canvas tarp and it doesn't look like Zachary is in direct sunlight.
I wonder if they may be the new formal uniforms, moving away from the all gray ones from Into Darkness?
They sure don't look formal to me. I'd expect some piping or something to make it look more like something worn for an occasion. Medals, too.
The way Quinto is lounging there, he's not exactly making the uniform look its best.
They just seem to be a throwback to the solid-colored TOS uniforms. They're more tailored than those because the budget allowed it.
I will say that if they were going to make this kind of change, solid ST09-style shirts would've been my preference over adding a collar, but it's hardly a deal breaker to me.
