New (UK) Eaglemoss Star Trek Graphic Novels Collection

Hey folks, a quick FYI; Eaglemoss Star Trek editor Ben Robinson & I are doing a signing event this weekend in London's Westfield centre...

Can you find out which comics are going to released between now and the end of the year?

That seems odd. Why wouldnt they spread it around a bit between the different eras to show off what they will do.

Yeah, you'd think they'd start off with older stuff that some of the younger people have probably never read. Or at least that aren't as easy to get a hold of, because both Countdown and Nero are still available on Amazon.

I think you are right. Thats horrible. That's the worst monstrosity of a ship ever onscreen. It should have never been seen as much as it was.

Right now you can get The Space Between for £5 new on Amazon UK, or £2.45 used ("v.good condition")

And Nero for £1.99 new and 19p used ("v.good condition")

I'm not paying £9.99 just for a hardback version, so I'm defintely cherry picking this collection. I'll be interested in some of the old Marvel and especially DC stuff, but for the new IDW ones... if I'd wanted them I would already bought them when they're all so readily available on Amazon and bookshops like Waterstones and especially comic book shops like Forbidden Planet or Travelling Man, etc

Those are 3rd party seller prices. You can't blame Eaglemoss for not competing with what is essentially the aftermarket.

From Amazon itself, the Space Between paperback is £17.99. On ebay, of course, you can get some of these for even less.

£9.99 is a decent price (and puts me in a quandry as I'd love a full collection but, like you, I have several of these already). My disappointment comes in the fact that the first six issues are all relatively recent IDW stories. I'd have liked to see something rarer released as maybe issue #4 or #5, just to showcase the variety we're promised.

^ Is it because, frankly, the quality of the old stuff isn't actually very good? Or a mixed bad at best? I mean at the end of the day no Star Trek comic is ever gonna appear on a 100 greatest comics list or anything is it. I wouldn't know, just asking. I remember reading a DC story as a kid that took place between Star Trek V & VI that was pretty cool. But I also remember some posts on here before about some of the terrible artwork for the Wildstorm DS9 comics IIRC for example

I suspect the focus on IDW material, at least to begin with, has to do with the print quality of the material. IDW can provide Eaglemoss with their digitial files. Older material may require rescanning and clean-up. In short, IDW's material is easier for Eaglemoss to bring to press.

Any word on whether Eaglemoss will be offering subscriptions to this in the US? I might sign up.

I don't know that they're doing subscriptions, but as mentioned previously, comic shops will be able to get these.

I don't think it's anything to do with quality or at least popularity, since the DC still is pretty well loved today.

Got my first delivery today of volumes 1, 2 and 3. I must say the print quality is absolutely smashing. Nice thick glossy pages and very durable expensive looking hardback covers.

The confirmation letter from Eaglemoss said they'd take the first payment from my account in a week. Seems very trusting for them to dispatch before this point, but I'm certainly not complaining!

I gotta keep an eye on this-- if anything pre-IDW is collected that I'd want, I'll order it through my local comic shop. My spines will look all funny, I guess!

I understand how they're starting with the IDW stuff, yes I am on a subscription but the first announced I all have! But I would like to collect all the GNs, so following this is a good way - the series is in a uniform format and surelyy a fair few gaps will be filled. i have the GIT DVD which covered Gold Key -> Wildstorm bar the X-Men crossovers, but I prefer to collect comics in GN format on paper.

Will the focus of all the Books be IDW though? Surely not, they themselves have reprinted older stuff so they may be part of this, DC and Wildstorm produced graphic novels. The backup for now at least is the Gold Key run.

I'm a bit of a crossover nut so I'm hoping they'll do TNG/DS9, Telepathy War, Divided We Fall etc., a bunch of arcs as well from the DC runs, Marvel etc. particularly stuff that was NEVER reprinted on paper. there's the DS9 Malibu run such as the Celebrity series, movie adaptations, Voyager Splashdown, Early Voyages, one shots, The Ashes of Eden, The Star Lost, Time Crime etc.

Plus there's gap-fillers such as Kirk at the Academy, the first and last voyages of the 'five year mission', Untold Voyages between TMP and TWOK, the crew on the USS Excelsior between Star Trek III and IV

No I doubt they'll be able to reproduce absolutely everything, but hopefully a lot of rare, forgotten stuff that most barely talk about is in ther (and not necessarily because they're crap, although in hundreds of comics some admittingly is!!), hopefully Eaglemoss' GN collction will bring it back to life

I picked up #2 yesterday btw, the City on the Edge of Forever one. Amazingly until only a few days ago I'd never actually seen the episode all the way through. So now that I have I'm interested to read this when I get round to it.
I'll get the next one, Hive, but after that the next (and only) three announced I'm not really interested in, so will see what comes out after those.

I suppose it's a good thing these come out the same day fortnightly as the Starships Collection, as it makes them easier to pick up together. Still it might have been nice if they both came out on different weeks, then you'd have a slice of Trek every week.

Wow I'm still waiting for mine to arrive and I've paid. My second payment is in a few days apparently as well. I haven't even had a dispatch date when I checked my account online.

There was something strange that happened when they took the first payment out of my account though when they only took £1.99 instead of £21.98. They took the rest of the payment yesterday though. Perhaps this had something to do with the delay?
