I think at this point, the best thing to do would be to quietly cancel all sequel plans and let Star Trek rest in peace.

Why? It can still make a lot of money. Paramount and CBS would be beyond idiotic not to milk it for all it's worth.

What a new TV series should be about...

It's simple.

Keep characters the audience who made Star Trek a hit on the silver screen, for the small screen.

Only do it in a prequel format. Do a show about the Kelvin, Capt. Robau and company.

Or throw a wrinkle in there and do a show about Captain Pike, and maybe make Robau his first officer.

ORRR go for the youth movement of viewers and set a show during the 3 year period we never got to see of Jim Kirk at the academy. You could explore more of the tests starfleet puts it's cadets through, along with do stories about officers already assigned to ships (namely Capt. Pike and co.)

Either way, it makes sense to do a show that is somewhat related to the events in this movie, and preferably just before so it doesn't adversely affect what the second movie could be about.

Do something like the Vanguard book series so that the Enterprise can pop up every now and then when it's time to promote the newest movie. Vanguard also has a great cast of characters.

I would LOVE a Vanguard show, but it'll never happen. Grumble...

As much as I like Robau and the crew of the Kelvin we know how his story ends. That's not much fun.

I think another ship would be the way to go - maybe a member of the fleet that was in the other system they kept talking about in the movie?

But to be honest I'd rather not see a new series until after the next sequel, and I'd like it to be 13-episode seasons so they can keep the quality up.

Well, if this new show is to be placed in the new Trek 2.0 continuity, then I'd like to see a new crew and a new ship. We already know what happens to Robau, George Kirk and the Kelvin crew, so I wouldn't want a a prequel series focused on these characters, but I loved the ship itself (the single-nacelle design, and especially the bridge).

So how about a show with the new crew of the USS Kelvin NCC-0514-A, and with a similar, but slightly updated design?

Also, what I'd like to see in this hypothetical show is this new Vulcan colony that Spock Prime spoke of. The rebuilding of Vulcan society would be an interesting thing to observe from time to time, and having a Vulcan character among the regulars would be interesting also. But heck, I'd love an Andorian too. And a female captain, played by Angela Basset

I would hate to think that everything known and loved about Kirk,Spock, McCoy, etc, was gone and erased just to be replaced by 3 or 4 or 5 movies worth of story. If a new series is made than i would want it to be about this same crew.

Okay, in the movie Spock is a lieutenant commander, on duty as an instructor at the Academy.

Pike is a Captain when we first meet him in the movie.

I say that Spock has already served with Pike on another vessel, possibly even a previous Enterprise (do not start that shit about the 1701 being the first, okay? But if you must, call Pike's ship the Farragut or something).

I don't know if you can sign Quinto for another TV series - if not, cast a younger guy as a younger Spock. I'll bet that for reasonable money you could sign Greenwood.

Who knows, maybe they even visit Talos IV.

I think if there will be a series it will be about Kirk and Spock on the Enterprise, not Commander Whatshisname and Spock's cousin on the USS Endeavour or something.

People will want a real Star Trek on the small screen, the one they know from the theatre, that means the Enterprise.

That would mean recasting again of course. It would be strange if they, say, get Quinto, Zaldana and Yelchin to reprise their roles, but with a "new" Scotty, Kirk etc.

I say let the movies go for a trilogy.
Then, as the third movie is coming out start a series with a completely different ship with ZERO people from the movies.

Trek needs to be special and rare right now. We don't need to suck it dry. It needs time to shine on its own...heck, we haven't even SEEN the new crew have their own adventure yet. This was all origins and Nimoy and all that.
