New to Who

Aww that's kind of sad. I liked them.

Last Christmas was pretty enjoyable. Definitely better than The Doctor, The Widow, and The Wardrobe. Twelve is slowing growing on me. The ending was really nice.

Capaldi's first Doctor was the First Doctor. When they introduced him to the public he even stood like the First Doctor. His getup is more like the Third Doctor. But his Doctor is his own plus all the other Doctors. There are bits of all of them in there. A lot of Four from time to time...when he's being more alien in nature, or somewhat self-centered egotistic. When's he's being rather cross it is a mix of the First, Sixth, maybe Nine, and some of the others depending on tone. When he's talking fast, its Eleven and Seven, with a hint of Ten if there's a gadget involved. Also Three if their is a gadget involved or some martial arts. Also Seven when he adds spoons to the swordplay.

The ones he seems least like, are Eight, Five, and Two. He's not so much Nine as he doesn't have the weight of burning Gallifrey anymore on his shoulders. Though he still questions himself over all the other things he did in the Time War.

Though the trailer for Series Nine would seem to indicate that he's going to show off a little of his inner Two, and now that he's more sure of himself, maybe Eight as well. Not sure if he will get to his Five or not.

I actually understood most of that. Guess I'm now officially a whovian.

Maybe we won't see much of number 5 in this Doctor, though the Tenth Doctor did self confess to a few traits from his Fifth incarnation.

Has the city of Adelaide or the state of South Australia been referenced in DW?

An obvious reference the Doctor or Tegan Jovanka could make in Big Finish is to the famous Beaumont children disappearance - presumed abducted and murdered, they were never found and the person responsible never was caught. If BF ever gets the rights to Madame Vastra, they can have her deal with him the same way TV Who had her deal with Jack the Ripper.

Alternatively Tegan could refer to the Adelaide Oval having been renamed Ratcliffe-Gordon Park

I think Peter O'Brien's character's bio shown on screen (The Waters of Mars) said he was from Adelaide.

I watched Partners In Crime and I'm glad I did because those little Adipose were so cute!! Then with The Fires Of Pompeii I spent half of it trying to figure out who Karen was playing. At first I thought it was the daughter, Evelina but no she was one of the cult girls.

I think I'm good now.

1963 - 1989 might be a little too community theatre for you.

Fox made a movie length back door pilot for Doctor Who in 1996, that cost to make as much as the last 5 seasons of the TV series in Britain.

There's a US sitcom called Community, which regularly featured a parody of Who called "Inspector Space/Time" which the aspergers character is obsessed with, that eventually got kickstarter funding and it's own webseries.

Have you decided to not watch Torchwood?

Originally Torchwood was an anagram of the words "Doctor Who", that was used as a production code in 2004 when they were trying to get NuWho off the ground without getting anyone's hopes up.

How you view things, maybe you should start at season three which is a 5 episode miniseries, that is essentially a big ass movie. Or season 4 which is a bit of a cluster fuck, but they go to America, and the who thing is financed by Americans, and using a lot of American actors oddly.

I don't know. As of right now I'm kind of Who'd out. For the last two months I've watched 4 series and 26 odd episodes. Need a little break. I'm finding with Doctor Who, there are so many different variations (classic, nu, books, spin offs) that it's kind of overwhelming. But it's something to keep in mind. Heck! I still haven't tried Enterprise yet!

And so many variations within those too. 26 and 10 years' worth of stories, respectively, which can be divided into about seven or eight distinct eras in terms of tone and approach.

JG might need some "Adult" programming as a palate cleanser before you get back into another wad of spaceships and vampire porn.

Do you have any strong opinions against Scandal?

Heard of it but not really my type of show. I'd rather finish the last season of White Collar. I've been putting that off for a while too.

Hold on, Star Trek has vampire porn? Explain.

The final season of White Collar is only 6 episodes.

You can do that in an afternoon.

You haven't got into vampires yet?

That stuff gets filthy.

I'm just finishing off season 3 of Teen Wolf.

It's like all the men are allergic to shirts.

I know. I'm just scared that something bad will happen to Neal and/or Mozzie. No spoilers please.

Besides Buffy, I've watched 5 seasons of The Vampire Diaries (it became awful) and the first two seasons of True Blood (got sick of all the sex scenes). Kind of over vamps at the moment.

Doctor Who had Vampires in the 80s, but that was a very different thing. An enemy that could make the Time Lords worry.

If you do decide to watch Torchwood, DO NOT start with Season 4. Hell, I can almost say don't bother with it. It stretches out it's premise over too many episodes, and it's pretty damn boring as a result. It also tries to change the status quo for the Fifth Season that never happened, so you're left with a huge cliffhanger that goes nowhere.

^ Thanks for the heads up.

I just started the final season of White Collar (sniff, sniff) and should be finished by Wednesday. I've decided to hold off on Enterprise in favour of continuing with the guy from Gallifrey. I want to try episodes with the First Doctor (because he started it), and the Third and Fourth Doctors (because they both had Sarah Jane as a companion and one of them looks like Willy Wonka). Oh and to finally understand what this jelly baby business is all about.

So give me a list of your favourite/best episodes from these guys.

The 'jelly baby business' actually started in the Second Doctor's time (and lord knows where he picked it up). I've had some, they are very good. :D Every Doctor since has been known to enjoy them, though Eleven tried to substitute Jammie Dodgers (as you saw). Four was especially fond of them.

As far as highlights from One's era:

An Unearthly Child/The Daleks/The Edge of Destruction: It all starts here. Nuff said.
The Aztecs: The show's first real exploration of what it means to try to change history.
Planet of Giants: The first 'Honey I Shrunk the Doctor' episode.
The Dalek Invasion of Earth: For reasons.
The Chase: Doctor vs Daleks round three, featuring the answer to an historical mystery, an hysterical 'Scooby Doo' segment, the first (and only) time the Daleks met their mechanical match, and a celebrity cameo at the start you won't believe...
The Time Meddler: Not the Master, but a distinctively naughty renegade Time Lord is messing with the Vikings!
The War Machines: The first Doctor vs monsters on modern-day Earth (1966) story.
The Tenth Planet: Enter the Cybermen - and a gravely-ill Hartnell almost misses his own last episode.
