New to Who

Season 2
The Christmas Invasion
School Reunion
The Girl in the Fireplace (Moffat written)
Rise of the Cybermen pt 1
Age of Steel pt 2
The Impossible Planet pt 1
The Satan Pit pt 2
Army of Ghosts pt 1
Doomsday pt 2

I would add Tooth and Claw, as not only do I think it's a great episode, it contains relevant set-up for the rest of the series (particularly the finale), and beyond Doctor Who itself...

I've added it as a set up episode ;)

JG have you read any of the novelisations?

just wait till you read Doctor Who and The Space War and then watch Frontier in Space and discover that THE TREACHEROUS DOCTOR GIT LEAVES THOSE PRISONERS ON THE MOON TO ROT!

The best one I've read is "The Silent Stars Go By"-it's the Ice Warriors, but with Amy and Rory, and it has a more Christmas-special style setting. It's written by Dan Abnett, who pretty much created the modern Guardians Of The Galaxy (The team in the movie) and wrote some of the better Marvel Star Trek stuff.

It was also selected to be reprinted in the 50th anniversary book collection as well.

There are many Doctor Who novel lines. The first hundred or so novels are adaptations of most of the classic TV stories. Then there's the New Adventures, which follow the Seventh Doctor, and the Missing Adventures which feature the first six Doctors. This later continued with the Eighth Doctor Adventures, which featured Paul Mcgann's Doctor from the TV movies, and the Past Doctor Adventures which were the same basic concept as the Missing Adventures. For the most part, the novels since 2005 have focused mostly on the new series and it's four Doctors (Well, five if you count John Hurt, who has one novel out Engines of War), although there is still ocassionally novels set with older Doctors.

Aww! You're no fun! *stamps foot in defiance*

Deep Breath was all about the Doctor and Clara. The emotional turmoil that they each felt. The face-wearing cyborgs were simply a backdrop. I felt for both of them but more so for the Doctor. It was difficult to see him so lost and especially Clara's rejection. He seemed like he kept apologizing for his new look.

Did he not explain to her what regenerating meant?

I think this bit of dialogue sums up perfectly what Clara was feeling, whether she wanted to admit it or not.

Vastra: He looked like your dashing young gentleman friend. Your lover even.
Clara: Shut up.
Vastra: But he is the Doctor. He has walked this universe for centuries untold. He has seen stars fall to dust. You might as well flirt with a mountain range.
Clara: I did not flirt with him.
Vastra: He flirted with you.
Clara: How?
Vastra: He looked young. Who do you think that was for?
Clara: Me?
Vastra: Everyone.

I thought Peter Capaldi was really great! I look forward to seeing how Twelve comes into his own. Love his outfit btw:) The "attack eyebrows" bit was hilarious!

From reading other people's reviews, Matt's cameo seemed split. Personally I liked it because Eleven's phone call was the one thing that seemed to really make a difference in Clara changing her mind about continuing with Twelve. He's still the Doctor. A bit more prickly but nonetheless the same man.

^ Does that mean I get to ride a big girl's bike!? Yippee! *Throws away lollipop and takes out pigtails*

Not only did he explain it, but she saw firsthand the different kinds of men he could be. She had plenty of warning. But it's one thing to know about regeneration, and quite another to witness it firsthand. Especially when the 'before' picture was a 'dashing young gentleman' you'd (all-but) fallen in love with. (Rose didn't have that problem, as Ten was arguably a trade-up on Nine and was still into her.)

When Capaldi was announced as Twelve, many talked (some jokingly, some not) about how the legions of fangirls who'd gotten hooked on the three young, handsome, hunky Doctors the new series had presented would rage, cry and quit the show in a huff now that the Doctor was (again) a cranky old man.

In 'Deep Breath,' Moffat decided to tackle that fear head-on by making Clara the surrogate of all those fangirls. And it worked - the show held on to its Smith-era audience.

Don't feel too bad for Clara, though. She won't be lonely for long...

Wait. Nine is considered to be handsome?

I hate it when people only watch a show because of eye candy. It's kind of annoying.

I watched Inside A Dalek so I've met Danny Pink. Um, no. They so don't look like a potential couple. Also, bad Clara! No need to get slap-happy.

Not safe for work.

Wellll, at the time... the whole rugged biker look and all...

Yep, you're far from the only one to say that. Samuel Anderson does have his moments as the season goes on, and on paper the relationship works, but the onscreen chemistry between him and Jenna just isn't there.

Rugged biker look, eh? James Marsters did it better.

Yes I've noticed that I REALLY have to pay very close attention to what the Doctor is saying to make sure I hear everything.

It's like they put out an advertisement. "If you are male and able to be in the same room without drooling on Jenna Coleman, congrats! You're hired!"

And he was the only one.

Nine, compared to most of the older Doctors, would probably be considered nice to look at. Paul McGann's Eight bests him at that, as does probably Five.

Clara's problem is somewhat understandable when it comes to regeneration. Aside from his forced regeneration into Three, the Doctor has never looked that old at the start. Generally regenerates into a man in his 40s. Twelve looks like a man in his 50, which aside from when an incarnation has had a long time to age, he never looks like that (save again Three, which was a face picked for him by the Time Lords). One didn't start out an old man, but a kid that grew up to me an old man with a granddaughter. The Hurt Doctor didn't start out as an old man either, but aged over the long Time War.

Rating humans like meat for attractiveness, is regionally specific.

The most beautiful man in Britain is a British 10, but if he went to New Jersey on Holiday, that same British 10 would be a New Jersey 6, and only a 3 in California if he went to the Golden State for an afternoon.
