New to Who

Well, I was more so meaning that someone completely new would uproot Xena from the Number One spot, and push everyone else down a peg.

By presenting viable alternatives.

Bo from Lost Girl.

Cameron from Continuum.

Eva Green from Penny Dreadful.

:)

While I thought Eva Green was stunning in Casino Royale, she does not come close to Xena. I had to look up the other two, no again. Accept defeat, Guy. Your attempts are futile.

Let me divert the conversation back to the topic at hand. How is it that River is Amy's daughter but she doesn't look like her? Shouldn't she have straight red hair?

Genetics are not always what they seem. How far are you into Series 6?

Do you think the Doctor looks even remotely like his parents? In any of his incarnations?

By the time you get to "Lets Kill Hitler", you will understand.

You may or may not like it, but you will understand.

The character was never referred to as "Doctor Who" on screen (except as a joke or when a new production took over and messed up) but he'd invariably be referred to as "Doctor Who" in general public discussion until fandom began to get rigid and uptight about these things in the JN-T era. Even the Targets would typically call him "Doctor Who" at least once, particularly in the early days. He's "Doctor Who" all the way through 'Doctor Who and the Zarbi', for example.

It's an understandable mistake on the part of casual viewers, though, since he was credited early on as "Doctor Who"

^ "Early on" meaning the first eighteen seasons, in this case. :)

Also, the first season of NuWho. But then, apparently, David Tennant objected and the end credits went back to pedantically calling him "the Doctor". Bah!

Oh, oops :alienblush:

I knew it was at least up through part of Pertwee's run, but, didn't realize it lasted throughout all of Tom Baker's run as well

There is the "Doctor Who" character played by Peter Cushing in the 60's Dalek films. Basically the films were cash-in attempts, featuring color, slightly redesigned Daleks with pincer arms and larger appearence, and a condensed and in some cases simplified story, based on the show's first two Dalek serials. The Doctor Who character is not a Time Lord or alien, and the TARDIS is pretty much an invention (The console room is also not exactly as alien as the Doctor's, although the interior police box door has been used in the 2005 series ever since).

Although the films are non-canon, they are notable for a few things, such as the Dalek redesigns (Which would later have elements incorporated into the new series Daleks, both the 2005 redesign and the new largely ignored 2010/Matt Smith era "New Paradigm" ones. Reused Dalek props from the movies were also seen in some Dalek stories) and featuring early appearences of actors who would show up in later Who, such as Phillip Madoc and Bernard Cribbins.

Well, if JG's head wasn't spinning before, after reading this particular page of the thread it sure will be now ...

"War Machines." William Hartnell. 1966. The serial where they did a major renovation on the TARDIS prop. First serial that didn't have individual episode titles--that had "Part 1, Part 2, etc." The WOTAN computer refers to him as "Doctor Who."

Too... Much... Information. Does not compute. Does not compute. Sensory overload. Abort. Abort.

Up to The Curse Of The Black Spot, clever title btw! Amy was totally copying Elizabeth Swann! How did the group end up in 17th century pirate times? The TARDIS was kind of misbehaving, right? At the end, where was the sickbay ship flying to? Why didn't Amy tell the Doctor about her visions? One more thing, the Silence. Um, what's their deal exactly?

Yeah I know lots of questions but I haven't got that Visual Dictionary yet. Besides, you're all smart people. Fill my sponge-like brain with knowledge!
