Well, I was more so meaning that someone completely new would uproot Xena from the Number One spot, and push everyone else down a peg.
It's an understandable mistake on the part of casual viewers, though, since he was credited early on as "Doctor Who"The character was never referred to as "Doctor Who" on screen (except as a joke or when a new production took over and messed up) but he'd invariably be referred to as "Doctor Who" in general public discussion until fandom began to get rigid and uptight about these things in the JN-T era. Even the Targets would typically call him "Doctor Who" at least once, particularly in the early days. He's "Doctor Who" all the way through 'Doctor Who and the Zarbi', for example.
Oh, oops^ "Early on" meaning the first eighteen seasons, in this case.
Also, the first season of NuWho. But then, apparently, David Tennant objected and the end credits went back to pedantically calling him "the Doctor". Bah!
