New To Voyager

Grandma watched the West Wing because Charlie Sheen's dad was smoking hot in Apocalypse Now.

Grandma has good taste.

The first 8 minutes of the Newsroom Pilot where the lead has a hilarious meltdown in front of a few thousand iphone cameras.

I would hardly characterise it as a meltdown, true he could perhaps have been more tactful in his answer.

And I've enjoyed The Newsroom (Yet to see S3) as well as The West Wing. Wasn't as keen on Studio 60

I am still not really back on television after my serious big time break from it for a few weeks. I am watching comedies but have yet to marathon anything, I am saga free atm.

The scene on that youtube cut out before we found out that he was on prescription drugs for something medical.

Maybe "woke up" is more accurate.

But it's a variation of the "I'm as mad as Hell and I'm not going to take it anymore" speach from the movie Network, that Aaron already used as an inspiration in the pilot of Studio 60... both of which were meltdowns.

Sorkin likes speeches.

He wrote A few Good Men for ####s sake, of course he likes speeches.

Geez, I'd followed a link in a post last night somewhere on the board that led to a site with Voyager episode reviews by someone named Jim, was up late before closing out and finally going to sleep, and now I can't find the post, the link, or anything in my history leading to it.*

But I did find an article from last year about the series written by a critic at Roger Ebert's site that discusses Voyager's mixed reception by fans, the show's feminist angle, and it even mentions a mock court-martial of Janeway on Trek Today back in 2001. Interesting read, with a few editing mishaps (spelling Berman as Bergman at one point), and calling Tuvok half-black, half-Vulcan.

* = The site I was trying to find is http://www.reviewboy.com/seasons.html

And that's a good film, but moving on "Did you order the code red?" ;)

I'm in the middle of season 6 here and is it just me or does it feel like Voyager is just coasting? Hasnt been anything memorable or inciting lately. Sure there's still good episodes but nothing stand out or moving.

You have to understand how embarrassed they are.

At every convention, braying crowds held back behind chickenwire were always insisting that Voyager should have been folded up and Deep Space Nine should have been given another 2 years. It seemed like a massive betrayal from the audience that Berman, his writers and the cast of Voyager could not forgive.

Beyond their impossibly large salaries/paychecks, none of them had a reason to give a damn or try a lick.

Yup. This is where I started eye rolling and wondering why I stayed loyal. It just kept becoming more difficult to block out how episodic Voyager was. When a series is about to wrap up stop being " creative." By that I mean stop writing in dumb campy episodes that only you Braga a find amusing.

Keep on it because it's all we got :-) enjoy what you can.

I think S6 has plenty of good eps.

Equinox 2: well we had to see what would happen
Survival Instinct: gutwrenching episode
Barge of the Dead: not a fan, but a super popular ep
Tinker Tenor: EMH ep = :techman:
Alice: thought this a classic Trek episode, for better or worse
Riddles: meh, but it does give Tuvok fans lots of screen time
Dragon's Teeth: I always liked this one, nothing original but atmospheric
One Small Step: compelling
The Voyager Conspiracy: adored it
Pathfinder: Great stuff, this from the anti-TNG person. Tied in so well to what is to come and Barclay is oddly refreshing in a future full of the super people
Fair Haven: YES I LOVE FAIR HAVEN the captain needs her holo-man, hilarious lines
Blink of an Eye: ABSOLUTELY fantastic, one of the series best
Virtuoso: if you love the EMH a good ep, otherwise rather meh with weirdass hologram rights stuff that makes no sense on a starship
Memorial: I hate this episode, mostly for the conclusion which I totally disagree with. The ep itself is dull.
Tsunkatse: omfg the boxing ep, SAVE us from sci-fi's obligatory boxing ep
Collective: YES I adore this episode. We always knew there were Borg children of course, it was good to see and poignant
Spirit Folk: So shitty it is almost good, but not really
Good Shepard: can't actually remember this one at all!
Live Fast and Prosper: amusing
Muse: Classic Star Trek
Fury: aaaaaaaaaand over to Lynx
Life Line: awkward, the EMH goes home to daddy and everyone else is still stuck in the DQ
The Haunting of Deck 12: Could have done without this one
Unimatrix Zero: The idea is interesting, the execution is not so successful. Gives us some Annika insight though.

My VHS collection was all over the place.

Nothing was recorded or dubbed in order.

(And really 2 episodes on a store bought tape? ####. Yes I kept them in order, but since I had to rewind the tape, and then go back the book shelf and maybe I did or maybe I didn't have the next episode...)

Seasons have never really seemed real.

Before Seven and after Seven is the only way to tell where in he timeline we were.

I forgot about Tinker Tenor Doctor Spy. Love that one! Maybe I need to rewatch S6.

Firefly is only 14 episodes and it is ABSOLUTELY wonderful. It is warm and witty and has gorgeous characters and great sets. If you loved the family element of VOY you will find it there, only more ragtag and harder earned than the forced family-ness of Starfleet.

It is almost a guarantee that you (as in, everyone) will fall in lust with at least one character. One of them was immediately elevated to the status of cute and adorable sex goddess like five minutes after she appeared and she is still there all these years after cancellation. Justifiably so, though she's not my personal lust.

I haven't even said all the cool sci fi stuff that is usually in my speech because I know you didn't come into this from a sci fi place JG.

14 episodes! You can do that while waiting for your NuBSG to arrive in the folder or mailbox.
